Mais uma extraordinária obra para se conhecer mais sobre o gênio do Neo-Expressionismo, com valiosos registros imagéticos e textuais sobre o legado fantástico do eterno Basquiat.

This book has the contents on line so you can look that. This book has some great color reproductions of Basquit's work, with some two page details of Basquiat's work, e.g. pp. 4-5: "Piscine Versus the Best Hotels," 1982 (detail) and pp.278-279: "Leonardo da Vinci's Greatest Hits," 1982 (detail). This book covers JMB's artistic life from the beginning, including the postcards he made with Jennifer Stein and includes some photographs of him working in his studio (as on the front cover of the book as well). The paper used for this book seems fine to me (as other reviewer mentioned this). I know another reviewer said to wait and buy Jean-Michel Bisquiat XXL at $150, but this a great book and is sold by Amazon for $37.42, with free shipping. A very good deal for about $112 less. Jean-Michel Basquiat, (BASS-KEY-AH), born 12/22/60, Brooklyn, New York, died 8/12/88 (27), Manhattan, N.Y. In about 1973, (when he was 13), his mother was committed to a mental institution. Looking at JMB's works, you can see the influence of his mother ("Gray's Anatomy" book she gave him in the hospital after he was hit by a car at age seven), and I believe her difficulties deeply affected him.

I bought this because I collect all of the basquiat monographs, and went to the Barbican for this retrospective. However, this book does contain nearly every single work that has been shown in other, better monographs. If you own the Jean Michel Basquiat show and the Tony Shafrazi monograph, this book does not offer anything those don't. The paper that they use could have been better, but again, this is discounted to $35 usd. I would save your money and wait for the Taschen XXL coming out in June, which will cost $150, but Is 400 pages and 15"x12" in size and I guarantee it will have all of these works, because it is being done by these same authors, but it will have plenty more, in better quality and size.
