This cafetière is a classic shape, but has had a slight upgrade from the original design, as the lid part now has an “emergency” filter and (if you rotate the lid 180 degrees from that) a small tab which completely closes off the spout. This extension does slightly slow the rate of cooling, so is a good idea. The only downside to the addition is that the filter now has its highest point about one inch lower than before. If you need to really fill your cafetière as much as possible (to the bottom of the spout) the plunger now rests below that level, and putting it in without thinking about it can result in boiling hot coffee grounds being squirted out of the spout. The glass remains the standard shape which means that in the event of you breaking it, spares are readily available, and replacing the glass is very easy, even for people with dexterity problems. Buying in replacement parts is better for the environment, and the broken glass can be put in the “glass and metal recycling” bin in most areas. It's also easier on the wallet. Construction quality remains good. The mesh of the filter on the one I bought does seem to stick out more than I remember my older set's filter doing. However, I'm sure that it will bed in and work as well as those on my older units. Over all, I recommend this product to anyone who needs a large cafetière at a good price.

Classic quality cafetière. Bodum the original and still the best. Bought the top of the range at a sale price. Works perfectly and with the Blue Mountain coffee I bought with it. It produces beautiful coffee when you want a change from espresso, cappuccino or lattes 😉

Nothing better than a Bodum. This 12 cup is a wonderful product and an excellent price on Amazon. These are £52 in the shops! I love that it hasn't changed since the 1950s, so I feel like I am in retro heaven. My Bodum arrived from Amazon perfectly packaged and is exactly what I wanted. The great thing about the Bodum French Press is that you can buy a replacement glass in the unlikely event that the original breaks. This is top quality though, and just looks classier than all the others. And of course it makes the best coffee!

I had to replace my old Bodum coffee maker because after a few years of being placed in dishwasher the metal frame became badly rusted. This time I've decided its best to hand wash rather than repeat the rust problem. The plunger is nice and tight so it filters the coffee well, and its a good size since my husband and I are serious morning coffee drinkers. Very pleased with Bodum...

What an amazing, impressive, top quality cafetiere this is. I've also got a plastic bodum 8-cup and a Sainsburys 8-cup and coffee from the Bodums just seems to taste better, although I'm not sure why. But this really is a smart object, with a huge, heavy, shiny domed lid, sturdy handle and is just a joy to use and display in the office (where I make coffee for my pals). The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is I think it's expensive, but maybe that's justified (why is it so expensive?).

As i said the Bodrum french press is smashing.I am happy if deliveries are put in my cuboard if i am not home,but when i checked it said that this parcel had been handed to me,it had not so please when people deliver put the correct details as i was really worried until i found the french press which was at the bottom of my recycling box.

This is the perfect size for larger gatherings. The coffee is easy to make and the product is easily cleaned.

Love it! I had a bodum french press which had lasted for 20 years - and then it only broke because I dropped it, not because it was faulty! This one I bought is pretty much the same, but bigger! I bought a larger size as my old one always needed refilling a couple of times if we had friends over - I'm very happy that this one makes a good 4 mugs worth of coffee (8 cups), but can obviously also be used for half that if needed. Also pleased that this design means the glass part can be easily removed from the frame for cleaning (and also replaced easily as the glass part is available to buy separately) - my old one was fixed to the frame, hence the need for a new one.
