What is the capture file format? Not the output file!

Sorry, I don't know. Bought a Dazzle to replace an old MovieBox, but couldn't get it to work. Sent it back for a refund. Have since got my MoviBox working again.TedB

what exactly does this do?

You connect it to a video player such as VHS or a video camera -either digital video camera or a video 8 camera. Then you connect it to your computer and it will automatically convert your tapes so they can be recorded on your computer. It's hassle free. You could then put your recordings from your computer onto a DVD. Your old tapes will lose quality if you don't convert them

Can i use it to copy sky+hd recordings to my pc?

This completely depends on how old your sky box is.. it uses composite cables and most sly boxes are now HDMI.. I’m sure you can probably manage it somewhow but I am unaware of how, sorry!

will this work on windows 8.1.

Running under Windows 7 on my desktop have not tried as yet on my Windows 8.1 laptop. Suggest you contact manufacturer to see if a driver is available for Windows 8.1
