Good Idea for people needing help.
I bought one of these grippers for myself and find them very good so I also bought one for my sister and she loved it.

Disappointing.
There's two different photos of this product, guess which one I got. The extra prong on the grab end is apparently now unavoidable, I went through pages of products to find one that didn't have it and I hate it so much. It makes it very hard to move laundry around because it just catches on things constantly. Seeing as all the other products are the same I'll keep it, but I think it's the worst and I'm frustrated that they'd do this.It appears the prong might be removable on this model though, which saves it from getting a 1.

Best of the lot.
No grabber is indestructible or perfect but this is the best of the lot.Simple and strong as it has no folding joint in the middle which no matter how many designs I've gone through mean you can barely pic anything up than paper. The straight screw at the on top of the tip is ridiculously useful in its own right as long as you keep tightening it. Might be worth designing it with a stronger nut to keep it on.I've gone through 4 of these but it's over a period 8 years of robust use. The other designs rarely last beyond 8 months. These last until the upper rubber jaws erode/disintegrate. The yellow rubber skin on the lower jaw perishes quite quickly but does little to diminish the jaws purchase. These could still be made of more rigid aluminium but are already more robust than the rest.A couple of design tweaks and they could last a lifetime.Top gizmo.

Does the job - and it is cheap!
Light and appears flimsey, but we have had it in daily use for months and it is still perfectly good....

Impressive when I tested it (purchased for occasional use)
I don't have any mobility problems (touch wood!), and have just purchased this reacher to keep handy for occasional use: e.g. for removing obstructions from my guttering.Having read the other reviews, I was quite confident. On unwrapping, I was a little doubtful, because the reacher seemed very light-weight; the claw grip was mostly in yellow plastic, and was connected to the pole by a fabric cord a bit like a narrow shoelace (perhaps this is standard). However, when I tested it three times by picking up a sheet of A4 paper, a Wellington boot (by gripping the sleeve) and a £1 coin, it was very impressive. It didn't crease the paper, and the grip was good. (The coin doesn't seem to be magnetic). The magnet attached to the reacher picked up and retained a bunch of 3 keys on a ring very easily -2 Yales and a Chubb.I'm pleased to have such a useful object which takes up so little space! To avoid disappointment: I'd like to mention about changing overhead light-bulbs - you'll still need your step-ladder!The reacher won't be able to remove a traditional-style (incandescent) ceiling light-bulb, either bayonet or screw-in. I'm sure this must be the case for other types of bulb too. This is not a fault of the reacher itself. Even a dedicated light-bulb remover I purchased recently was totally useless, because you need to climb up to the level of the light-fitting so that you can use one hand to hold the fitting steady while you twist and remove the bulb by using your other hand.I hope this is of help!

Re-seat the magnet with glue
I've had several of these reachers now and generally happy with the value for money. Generally well put together although I've had some issues with cord and mechanism becoming detached and having to be rethreaded and put right. However in all of them I've eventually lost the magnet either temporarily or permanently as it can fall out of the rubber housing right at the end of main rod. I suggest you re-seat the magnet with some good general purpose glue to minimise the chances of this happening - the magnet is a useful feature for retrieving cutlery, keys, most coins, even usb plugs. There is a limit to the weight of objects but extremely useful nevertheless.

Handy device (gettit?)
I've used this sort of tool for a while now because my balance is a bit dodgy and bending to pick things up can be hazardous. The last one that I bought was good but the "fingers" became damaged and the tool had to be replaced. The Ready Reacher does it's job very well. It's reach is good and it's ability to pick up is ideal for most things. The magnet is freakishly strong and the jaws knit together meaning that they stay aligned. There are some things it's not so great for picking up: heavy objects (obvious really), very small non-metal objects (difficult to get either jaw under the object) and thin paper (will mark or damage). The website illustration shows a man using the reacher outside; he is picking up leaves, he is not weeding the reacher will not do that!
