Great transformer for bath extractor light
Bought to replace a transformer in our Blauberg extractor fan over the bath - easy to connect up and now the light works again. Great stuff.

Great replacement transformer
Bought this to replace a defunct transformer for my garden lights. Despite the replacement being much smaller, I connected it up and the lights work again, albeit a bit less bright. Can't comment on longevity, but the product seems to be suitable and was easy to install.

Compact transformer
Easy to install - If you are not a qualified person, do not attempt to do this job. The last thing you want is to cause fire, electrocute yourself and what is worst, your wife shouting at you if you burn your house. I am an engineer; you don't need to be one to change this. It is a 5-minute job if you know how to do it. If you are a DIY confident person, you can do it. Otherwise, call a technician (electrician). If you are a technician I don't need to tell you anything, the transformers have a nice and manageable size, nothing like the old times. It is pretty light and easy to connect the terminals. It is not heavy. Make sure you are using the correct rating; those were 12V up to 60 W dimmable. I can't confirm if they are dimmable, I suppose they are, but I am using a standard switch. I just fit those transformers in case we want to update to a dimmable switch in the future.

Saved me getting an electrician for this simple job
I'm no electrician, or even a competent DIYer, but when a halogen bulb in the kitchen wouldn't light up (wasn't the bulb) I figured this was the next thing to try. It was a simple like-for-like replacement, easy to install and works well. Light was up and running after. As for the rating, I can't fault this product right now, and only time will tell how well it lasts. Saved me getting an electrician for this simple job. I'm sure there's a good reason for this, but I wish these transformers were not hard wired and sealed. I have laminate flooring upstairs, so to avoid unpicking this I used the hole in the ceiling to pull down the transformer and this fits through fine. But because the transformers have the wire sealed in, I also need to pull down the connector that joins the light to the lighting ring and this is too big for the hole which I had to widen. This means I have to make good the hole, and seems like this could be easily avoided.

Product fine but..
...after much research, there are various nuances for this type of device: 1) they're not a "transformer" in the conventional sense, more an electronic device capable of supplying 12V AC 2) to perform electrically, device requires a minimum electrical load of 20W, so may not work with a low power, LED MR16 (DC) type bulb 3) no point in testing output with a conventional meter as the output frequency is of the order of several kilohertz which will not adequately register on a conventional (50Hz nominal) multimeter. An oscilloscope is needed to evaluate the actual output 4) apparently, by legislation, MR16 HALOGEN AC bulbs are on the way out. So, at some point, there's going to be a big switch over when we ditch these devices in favour of a 12V DC output unit with a corresponding 12V DC LED bulb

Be sure exactly what it is you are actually buying...
This product no doubt does well what it is designed for. But don't be misled by the rating "PRI 240V, SEC 11.6V" or the word 'transformer'. It IS NOT a TRANSFORMER in the traditional sense of a primary and secondary winding, which was what I was actually looking for to fulfil my project requirement, which is why I bought it. The voltage actually increases with load. And it needs a minimum load of about 20W (~7 ohm max) to work at all. To bypass the slow-start circuitry I opened it up to discover it is actually a DC (bridge-rectified) mains input to a DC circuit that oscillates and generates AC to a tiny, custom toroid. So it you're looking for a straight transformer, don't but it. It you want to supply 12V filament bulbs between 20W and 60W load, buy it - it's nicely designed and built. It just needs a more accurate description.

Works but extra comes with pre-attached wires
This does the job but I should have bought one without wires. Because they are pre-attached (and not obvious how to remove them) it was necessary to connect to the mains using a connector block. After this I've bought ones to which mains and 12V wires can be attached. It is great value and, like I've mentioned, it works so no complaints about the functioning. But be sure you need to wires already attached.

Getting more difficult to find transformers for halogen downlights!
These are fine and suitable for 12V halogen lights which are still useful for intermittent usage like in utility or spare rooms. I replaced the downlights with LEDs in the living room but now have accumulated a stock of halogen bulbs which are still useful, however the transformer - drivers for halogens are getting scarce!
