I long ago learned the high value of having real hook tools during routine automotive and other types of servicing. Improvising hook tools from coat-hangers and stuff like that is pretty Jethro, IMO. Even though I've had to do it once upon a time, and even though it can work out in some cases, the truth is that the right hook tool is just as much a part of a proper mechanic's tool setup as are the correct drivers (flat, torx, phillips, reed-prince, etc.) or extensions, or sockets or whatever.If you work on a modern car, you're going to need hook tools sooner or later.The trouble with most hook tools is that one tool tries to be all things and often ends up being not very good at any hooking function. That's where this set shines.The DURATECH set simply overcomes that issue by mass assault, with eight different sized and shaped hooks in a variety of hook profiles. There are two basic families of sizes in this eight piece kit. A "large handle" set in four profiles, and a "small handle" set, also in four profiles. Think of the large handles as about like a #2 Phillips, and the small handles as about the size of a typical #1 Phillips. The handles are an attractive an unique blue/black combo, which makes them easy to spot among other tools.To be fair, I have not yet really put heavy strain on these hooks, but for anything routine they look fully up to the task.Most kits of this type come in a cheap vacuum-blown plastic tray, often poorly laid out and space wasteful.Howver, though this set's tray is vacuum blown, it is made of a more robust thickness material. I judged it of good enough organizational design and build quality to function in my tool chest, and I made a space for it there. Since I've spent 35 years building my tool chest, and because I am picky, it is populated almost 100% by U.S. made tools, including some U.S. made hook tools from famous mfg. So, to put this Sino-made set in there is a declaration on my part that these Duratech tools are worthy of the place. (FWIW, I do have a few other Sino-tools, aka Harbor Freight/et al, which simply don't make the cut. They sort of float around the shop like orphans....:-)Pros:Solves the issue of "no one hook tool does everything"Comes in two size groups, appropriate for most hose, wire, cable, and plug hooking and pullingIncludes a well built tool drawer-worthy plastic organizerCons:Does not cover very small pick needs (i.e. "dental pick" sizes) - but that is fairly obvious from the pictures on AmazonI'm giving it a five star. I'm a retired master automotive tech with over 40 years of experience. I've had my share of hook and pick sets. By far, this is the nicest one that I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I've had some pricey sets before, especially from those tool trucks that come around to your shop. What I like about this set is the handles. The metal parts are of excellent quality, but the handles are really well made and ones you can grasp, especially when your hands may be greasy or oily depending on what you're working on. The last hook and pick set I purchased has held up, but the handles are just too small and sometimes a real pain to use. Not so with this set.This hook and pick set comes in a nice plastic tray. It's great for keeping them organized. I put this set in one of the drawers in my tool cabinet's side drawers. You can see it in one of the photos. This is a great set to have, and they are definitely worth the selling price.

I really like this set. When I opened the box I was surprised how big the large ones are and they all have a quality look and feel. The handles have a good shape and texture that lets you get a good grip on them. I've used the smaller picks to pull o-rings, remove shields from bearings and pull out small springs. I haven't needed the larger ones yet, but they look just as good as the small ones. Really happy with this set and would recommend it to anyone.

This is a handy set of garage tool-set picks. There are a good variety of sizes and hook types, so a near certainty that there will be one that is a good fit for your particular need/application, including a fine straight pick. Until receiving these, I had been trying to get by, using old dental scraper/picks, for my picking needs in the garage (removing o-rings from small engine shafts and collars), but this set was a slam-dunk replacement for my old approach. Unlike the dental pick, these are STRONG, and they will not deflect under moderate pressure/tension when in use. I like these tools quite well & am glad to have ordered them. No issues or problems, easy to recommend for others.

I do engine repair and one of the things that is tricky is the rear main seal. For some reason they seem to have done a poor job on these in the past decade.While I can normally bump the engine with the cap off and push the old one out with the new one, sometimes I can't. :)This set has 8 different configurations to reach just about everywhere.They are about 8-8.5" in length so you will still need to keep the small ones handy but these are a very tough set and should last a lifetime.I know it is a small thing but I love how Duratech has the hard shell plastic on the majority of their sets so you can you them as drawer organizers.I highly recommend this set.

This duratech 8 piece hook and pick set has great variety of sizes. Comes in a nice tray to keep you organized. The hooks have comfortable easy to grip handles. These are a must have for any auto enthusiasts.

Been impressed with Duratech tools, the quality, look and feel of this hook and pick set is very nice. I have other US made hook/picks and I can say these rate at or above some of them.1. Handle is semi soft texture-nice grip in hand.2. Value, the price is a fraction of my other US made hooks.3. Tools just look nice-not cheap feeling metal to plastic.4. Tray is made of a flexible plastic pretty sure it will crack or tear at some point but still a nice touch. You never know when you’ll need to grab for a pick or that cotter pin tool. At this price having them handy and/or worrying about loosing/theft, this set is a no brainer.
