Will this work for removing lug nuts off of truck wheels?

New maintained truck maybe. Corroded or heavy used truck probably not. Car more than likely. It isn’t a heavy duty impact.

Does "Bare Tool Only" mean it doesn't come in a retail box ?

No it does come in the original box from factory just does not come with battery but you can buy aftermarket batteries cheaper and work very well .all of my milwakee tools I use aftermarket batteries everyday at my job and have not had any issue's . hope this helps you
