Inadequate.
Apparently Amazon feel this is an appropriate item to ship out. Half the print is missing from the pattern cover it's dirty!! I'm appalled and disgusted right now especially with the current climate and hygiene being a top priority! Apparently not for Amazon or its employees.

A Very Respectable Edition
Book: This book has two books - 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' and 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' -merged into one edition. These are the earliest stories of Sherlock Holmes.Edition: This is the Penguin Classics edition, published in 2001. It has additional material for interested fans, along with the basic text of the stories.Packaging and delivery: The packaging was not satisfactory. I had ordered this paperback and it arrived in a slightly bent and battered condition. There were no cracks or tears, though.Cover: The typical Penguin Classics cover. The front cover has detail from an original illustration by Sidney Paget, which has been hand-coloured by Helena Zakrzewska-Rucinska. The cover looks great.Binding: They have used glue-binding and not sewn binding, which is a minus in my opinion. But the job has been done well.Paper quality: The pages have a decent paper quality, the usual stuff provided by Penguin. The font is small but clear.Content: Alongside the stories themselves, there is a valuable introduction by Iain Pears, and also numerous notes by Ed Glinert. The notes can be found in the back, divided story-wise for the convenience of the reader. A chronological chart of the main events of the author's life has also been provided. In a nutshell, this is a very good edition for a serious reader of Sherlock Holmes. The text itself is well-edited, and all the supplementary material make it all the more wholesome. The only weakness is the lack of the sketches by Sidney Paget, which could have made this Penguin Classics edition just perfect.

Interesting short stories!
My review is for the OUP edition of Adventures of Sherlock Holmes prepared by Richard L. Green.Of the first six stories (they first appeared in magazine in well-connected order), I love The Man with the Twisted Lip the best. ACD's terribly British humour is at his best. A British gentleman is found by his wife at an opium den. Though there is no crime actually committed, the process of discovering the true act is wonderful. There are only two actual murders of the initial six, nonetheless they are very pleasant to read along and see how Holmes exercises his power of observation. The introduction by the famed Mr Green is meticulously detailed. I particularly like the quoted passage of ACD saying in what sense the story teller was a revolutionist in the art of narrative. Also there is a good quote from E. Wilson, who simply did not care who murdered Roger Ackroyd, praises the achievement of ACD.

Quality especially for the price.
The texture of it feels so good, the cloth cover is relatively pristine minus a few minuscule strands on one edge. The pages themselves passed the smudge test, when dealing with printed books sometimes they can smudge really easily but this didn’t seem to be an issue here. Also love the quote at the back and the bookmark.
