Does the power button turn just the display off, or does it turn both the display and the power?

It turns off both, display and power.

Anyone successfully disabled the display/light? Maybe easy to open and snip the correct wire?

I wouldn't do that. Just cover with a sticker if it really bothers you that much.

I installed mine in a plastic panel on my Scooter. I used a hole saw with my drill. Then, filed the rough edges.
