I need to push some boots out to original size, size 10d. i bought the large. i can't get them all the way into the boots. what do i do?

Would a small work for men's boot size 8?

I purchased these in xl for my 11.5 d iron rangers. when fully extended, i am able to move the heel of the tree around within the boot. too small?

I bought a size small for a shoe size 8. Since the tree is still slightly bigger than the shoe, is size small still working as intended?
