Spot On
bought for correcting my colors output on Print in comparison to my monitor. I thought my monitors were well calibrated for color before I bought this. I was actually surprised how off my screens were. Now my Printed Photos are much closer to matching what I have printed. makes a nice difference in my PC Gaming as well. This device will not calibrate your HDTV, but all Flat Screen PC and MAC monitors.

Spyder4 Pro: Effective and well thought out
SUMMARYA very good product. The software installs easily on Windows 7 and I had no problems running the calibration process. The end result was a nicely calibrated ViewSonic VX2025 LCD monitor with richer colors. The Advanced Analysis feature showed a uniform Gamma curve and spot-on white point over the brightness range. The Help file could be a little more explicit about what features are Spyder4 Elite (Not Pro) only. But, I still give it a 5/5.DETAILED ReviewThe Spyder4 Pro was received in a secure package containing the Spyder4 unit, a stand, rubber cup for CRT monitors, software and a Quick-Start Guide. More detailed instructions are included on the CD Software.Installation on a Windows 7 computer was straightforward without issue; remember to install the software before attaching the Spyder to the computer. A check of the software with DataColor website indicated an updated version was available and installed.Calibration was accomplished on an older ViewSonic VX2025wm LCD monitor with On Screen Display (OSD) set to "User Color"; this setting allows for access to RGB color sliders for more precise temperature control. The software launches with a Welcome Screen that reminds you of a few things before starting the calibration. The calibration process allows you to select between a Full or Re-Calibration and allows you to select certain settings such as Gamma and White Point (Color Temperature). Limited brightness settings are available. The Spyder4 will measure ambient light and make recommendations for white point and brightness; you are allowed to keep the "current settings" from the last calibration. You will be instructed to place the Spyder on the screen and the calibration process will begin. If you told the Spyder that the OSD had sliders a screen will appear after some initial measurements telling you the current readings for white point and luminance. Adjust the sliders and brightness to get the values where you want. NOTE: This a nice feature. If you want a lower luminance to help your "darker" prints match the monitor this allows you to pick the luminance you want. My monitor was not capable of achieving the recommended brightness of 160 so I went with 110. If you don't have sliders the software will check for brightness only. Calibration continues and then gives you the final results. A "Spyder Check" screen allows you to see "Before and After". "Advanced Analysis" will allow checks to be run for Gamut, Tone Response, Brightness/Contrast and White Point at different Settings. This is a nice feature and allows for graphical presentation and recalling the data from previous calibrations to check for changes and to see the effects of different settings. If you choose the Advanced Analysis I would suggest that you make note of the brightness setting before taking the measurements because the process will ask you to measure at 0, 25%, 50% and 100% brightness. After the measurements you must return to the calibrated brightness setting to keep the monitor in calibration. The entire process went very well. The calibrated monitor looks better; it is richer in color with better dark tones. The measured gamma curve is smooth with no bumps and almost overlays the theoretical curve. The only complaint that I have is with the Help file on the CD. It seems to be written for the Spyder4 Elite and is not always clear which features are not included for the Pro.
