These little pastilles are like tiny bouncers for your throat — one suck and the cough gets kicked out of the club. Dry cough? Chest cough? Mystery tickle from the 7th circle of hayfever? In the novel “Great Expectations” the main character Pip is dosed with tar water to “keep him regular”, something he did not enjoy at all! Medicine is traditionally nasty tasting as Dickens recognised and these cough pastilles are no exception, they are absolutely foul. However … they are effective and if you are in the process, as I am, of trying to subdue an absolute hacker of a cough, they do provide relief. They remind me somewhat of a mixture known as “cabdrivers” bought many years ago from a chemist in Pimlico when I was similarly afflicted. That was vile too (I wonder if you can still get it?) but it worked.

It is helpful if I have the odd cough and feeling under weather especially this time of year where bugs wreak havoc and play up and the irritating cold is making you cough which can be pretty annoying
