Broke apart within 5 months of purchase, complete trash
I bought this five months ago and it seemed all right, but this morning I arrived at work, put my foot on it, and the entire side crumbled off and broke because it's made of very shoddy "particle board" (honestly more like crumbly hard cardboard). I'd suggest buying something much sturdier that is made of plastic or a surface that can't crack so easily - I've never stood on it or put any more weight on it than my feet while seated. In addition, the plastic/rubberized band that goes around the outside started falling off about a month into use. If it was $10-15, not so bad, but it costs more than the quality you get and it shows. (Updated May 5: the rest of it just crumbled under my foot and got thrown in the trash. Goodbye, garbage.)

Effective and Functional Footrest
This is a really good footrest I've tried other footrests that are more expensive yet I always return to this one. I work a lot of hours at my desk and this footrest has proven effective over the years. I also trust the Safco brand. I have other Safco furniture and it's held up well.Pros:Adjustable tilt angle, easy on my back and glides smoothly with a little pressure.I've kept this around for years so it lasts. (I don't use it with shoes... just slippers, socks or bare feet)Low profileSize is right, I wouldn't want this footrest to be any less than 8"Cons:Dust collects underneath, but easy enough to cleanBare bones, minimalist design, (this may be a plus for some)Occasionally the metal bars on the floor slide around but I have mine resting on my chair mat which has a slick surfaceFinal Note:It's times when I've sit down without this foot rest at my desk that I notice how much I rely on it. Like I said, I work a lot of hours sitting at my computer and after a while back support is crucial. This footrest is the most functional and comfortable I've used.

My legs are happy!
I've been using a foam, soft footrest that's about 4-5" tall. It worked fine, but wasn't quite tall enough for my short stubby legs. They don't make furniture for short people really, so to reach the top of the desk I have to raise the chair as high as it will go which then leaves my feet dangling. You can imagine how NOT comfortable that is over time. And sadly, people who make footrests seem to think everyone is at least medium height which is just silly because why would those people even need a footrest to begin with? But I digress.I love this footrest for a couple of reasons. 1. it's taller, which means it actually is the right height for my 5'2" body. I ordered the 8" one, which to be honest leaves your feet about 6" off the floor because as you can see in the picture, the support part sits down a bit from the top. It works, though, so..yay.2. The support moves...it's not connected to the base which means it tilts back and forth depending on how you put your feet on it. I love this feature...it means I can flex my feet and toes, and use the support as a way to stretch my lower legs. If you're short, you'll know how cool that actually is. I used to prop my feet up against the wall, slouching down in the chair to do it, when I needed a stretch. (yes, yes, I got up and walked around too but sometimes you HAVE to stay). I have a black patch on the wall now from feet and shoes caressing the wall in an effort to ease the strain on the back of my thighs. Now, I don't have to do that. I can play with the footrest while I do other things, like type this review. It's awesome. It's a strange thing I didn't know I wanted but now is a must-have.The only thing better would be if this had those little massaging bumps on it so I could do that too...or perhaps heat. Or...well, if it came with someone who'd rub my feet that'd make it perfect. For those having to wear shoes, the hard surface will stay nice and probably easy to clean. I personally can't work with my shoes on but..to each their own.

Ergo Comfort 2106 8" SLIDES on Floor
Received this 9 weeks ago and in some aspects it's good and others it's not. Good point is it's lightweight and can be moved with your feet and the platform easily swivels to your foot angle making it comfortable and a good height for my wife who is the one using it to support her leg position. However, we have ceramic dining room floor tiles that aren't particularly slippery but agreed its not carpet. There are 4 rubber protectors as you can see from the picture which protect the floor and one would presume are also to stop the foot rest from slipping. Not so !! The are more like rollers, they are a neoprene and not a stretchy softer rubber that should have been stretched tightly onto the silver frames and gripped itself into position. So, the foot rest gradually moves away from you. I have tried gluing them which isn't easy getting glue in between the tube and the frame. I tried sealant too. I just don't think the glue has a chance to dry in there is no air getting in there to cure it. I've taped the ends with electrical and also duct tape. It doesn't stick to the shiny frame. My next thought would be to find 4 rubber feet with a bolt that would go thru the center and I'd drill a hole thru the frame. I will have to hunt for them I'm sure.I am also disappointed because I paid $45 and now searching for this product again to write my review I see them at Ikea for $30. Amazon has dropped too. Maybe they realize there is a problem for some applications. I'm sure I'll figure this out, come up with something to fix a poor design.

Top is slippery
I bought one of these adjustable footrests 12 years ago, and it's still going strong, great footrest! I can not say the same for my new unit. This unit is made cheaper and cost me twice as much, mind you, my other unit was bought over 12 years ago, therefore there should be a increase in price. (twice as much?) My older unit platform is made of 1/2" plywood, and has a ribbed rubber mat glued on the top, this keeps your feet from slipping off, and wide ribbed rubber tubes on the metal frame to keep it from slipping on hard surfaces. My new unit is the same 1/2", but I think it is made of pressed wood, and a thin slippery material on top , and narrower rubber ribbed tubes on the frame.

expensive, does the job, but could be better
I'm not sure I'd buy this again. it was kinda expensive for what it is. it does the job but it could be grippier and it could move easier for the cost

great
bought for work and serves same purpose of more expensive ones.

its more like 6" to the step
not quite as advertised as the height is measured not from the foot rest platform...its more like 6" to the step, also a piece was not installed properly but it wasn't critical to the function
