The default reading is in microsiemens, which I much prefer to ppm, but the the meter can convert and present the reading in ppm if required. I would suggest checking the accuracy immediately using the provided 1413 microsiemens calibration fluid. Then I would suggest testing some distilled water - the reading should zero. Over time the meter will need to be recalibrated but this is a simple procedure using the 1413 calibration fluid. I own several professional conductivity meters made by WTW, Hanna and such like but they are stored in quite bulky professional cases and are equipped with separate electrodes whereas this meter is easy to access and to use being all of one piece and this is sometimes very handy.
