Quite Simply Amazing!

I have tried just about every mainstream gate (Sentry, Decimator G String, NS-1X, Zuul Mini etc) on the market and this is simply the best. It makes no sense because it doesn't have the clean tracking feature of the 4CM featured gates but it somehow does a much better job. By better I mean totally natural and unobtrusive. While at the same it cuts in and out at the perfect time with no odd attack or abrupt roll off. This is the only gate bar none that I can put in my FX loop and it allows me to roll back my guitar volume without constantly stuttering or eating my tone. It never does the stutter thing but always ramps up and down naturally.Awesome!

Worth every penny for me

I had an extremely annoying ground hum on my pedalboard. I tried everything I could to try and fix it, new cables, new power supply, hum-eliminator pedals, non-worked. So I finally made the decision that I was going to try and gate it, instead of getting rid of it.Stuck this on my board early in the chain, and basically out of the box with minimal tweaking I now have a silent rig. The tail end of the gate as it initiates is very smooth, and with some reverb (I never really play a dry rig) I literally cannot tell the signal is gated at all. No stuttering, and I still play very light and dynamic without the gate kicking in preemptively - it's as if it magically knows exactly which sound I want to get rid of... Just set-up and forget about it pedal - probably the most valuable thing on my rig now.

Solves 70% of the problem

I have a pedal board line for my bass, starting with an MXR preamp into an MXR bass compressor. These seem to introduce hiss, especially when one or the other is bypassed/off. Being not particularly cheap, I took a punt on getting the MXR Smartgate to fix this. There are 3 frequency settings - Hiss, Mid and Full. I thought the Hiss one would be sufficient but it didn't cut out enough for me. I've ended up using the Full setting but very carefully adjusting the know so that I don't lose too much of the tone I actually want. So its very good but not perfect. If I could ask for a feature change, I would like the knob to be lockable in because its pretty unlikely you'd want to make adjustments once you've solved the issue. It came with some sort of rubber knob to put over the plastic one. I've no idea what that is meant for but be warned if you push it on, you will struggle to get it off again. It took me quite a few minutes to work it off carefully with a screwdriver wedge, trying no to damage the knob!

Most Expensive = Best

I have a bunch of Noise Gate pedals... this is the best in my opinion. why... because i can tweak the envelope so it works best with my high-gain tone. But let's be honest... no one else noticed when i changed the pedal on the board for this.

Fantastic little pedal

Fantastic little pedal, I previously had an NS2 before this and it is such an improvement over the Boss pedal, main improvement being it actually stops feedback. Like all MXR pedals, it is built to last.
