a reread from my childhood that remains exactly as fun!
If you played wing commander games this book is for you. Loved it when I was a teen, loved it again at 40. WW2 style story with aliens and sci fi tech and space.

I haven't red it yet, but I am a Wing Commander fan, so for me it doesn't matter - it will be good for sure :)

Another great Wing Commander book!
This is another one of many books set in the Wing Commander universe. I was skeptical at first since I didn't recognize the authors, but after reading the preview, I was hooked. For background, I've played through most of the WC games, 1-4, back in the good old days of DOS gaming.Focusing on a non-Christopher Blair character, as one other reviewer mentioned, is refreshing. The point of view switches between the main characters, instead of solely following one. The plot may be predictable, but I still found it to capture my attention. I was able to think back to the games and the ships/weapons/characters of the WC universe.I recommend this book to any WC fan, it is an enjoyable and fast read.

I got what I expected from a video game novel
Effective immersion into the world if wing Commander. Not very long, not particularly well written, but satisfied with the read and nostalgia.

Great Book for you Sci-Fiers out there!
Lacky and Guon wrote another addition to William Forschen's series. I love most books that continue and do not leave you hanging. Don't forget to buy the rest of the series. Thanks Paul!

Not the greatest, but it is still Wing Commander...
I've never played the first Wing Commander, so Freedom Flight gave me an insight into what the first installment of the game series was like. The space battles were not great, however, they were a little mediocre, but over all the book was pretty good, but nowhere near my favorite in the series.

A ggod, quick read
A fun, fast story. Quite a few minor editing errors, but not enough to otherwise detract from an entertaining plot.

Great jaunt in the old tradition of Space Opera
Great read. Fast paced. I haven't played the games so this had to stand on its own as a story and as part of the greater series story. It did. Very enjoyable read

Great book, but more needed..
For all those 1990s gaming heroes who were introduced to the Wing Commander universe then welcome back, for all those who are new then you are in for a big treat. The book tells the tale of the Terran/Kilrathi war and a very important event which would determine the outcome for the Bird race newly joined in the Terran alliance. I love the way that the Wing Commander books pull the reader in and really start to feel for the characters. I really hope that all the books are digitized as the games in the series are available on modern PC.I enjoyed this book but there are more enjoyable ones out there which have yet to be digitized.

Difficult at start, then....
Really enjoyed it. Want the next book. Difficult to get into, was the third or forth attempt. Only my trust in this authour kept me returning, and did it pay off, mostly. Four star, v five, is not for this, but for kindle dragging its feet (sub ports?). This books have been out since the 90's, so delay in getting the next book out is manufactured. Hate that.

The details in the storyline are difficult to take seriously.
Started reading it and was ruling along with it. The plot line was dubious with a high caste alien from a militaristic carnivorous race willing to betray his civilization to the terrain enemy. When the chief protagonist decides to steal a ride on a captured alien star fighter on a whim and is allowed to do so. Sorry that is a stretch to much. Had to stop there.

Finger Weg

Good for Fans of Wing Commander 1
This was an okay read. As a fan of the games I enjoyed getting some more detail on some of the events going on during and after Secret Missions 2. Several game characters appear, some with more substantial roles, others as cameos. It was nice - make it feel like the game world. The most interesting parts of this book for me dealt entirely with the Kilrathi. Two of the main characters of the story are Kilrathi and through them we get glimpses at the sociology and theology of the Kilrathi Empire. It is quite fascinating and left me wanting more - A pity there was not a book written entirely with Kilrathi characters. Rahlga and Kirah are both interesting and understandably different from the humans. The Firekkans are also fairly well developed as a distinct race in and of themselves. Not as deep as the Kilrathi but there's enough to get invested. The story pacing is more like two story arcs put into one book - we get an exciting beginning, a seeming conclusion to the problem, a slow period, then a new conflict arises and that is dealt with up until the end. Unfortunately I found myself pushing myself through the read. Barring a few select sections much of the gravity of the situations was lacking descriptions. Hunter is portrayed as far more of an Ace than he ever was in the games (for me, anyway) and he pushes the realms of plausibility in this book for what he gets away with (both in and out of the cockpit).Overall, it isnt a Great Read, but it was perfectly okay. I would recommend it to any fan of Wing Commander 1. If you have not played WC1, you will be unfamiliar with a lot of the characters and ship designs; the book does not go into much detail explaining what they look like or what they can do.
