Must try it!
Very good OD pedal - provides a nice, responsive range from an easy going, clean boost to a really distorted, dirty sound. Great if you're into blues, and driving a tube amp like a fender blues junior. Noise free and doesn't colour the tone in any unnatural ways. For me this lost out very slightly to the TCE mojomojo - really just a personal preference thing. This is slightly brighter and clearer than the mojo, which many might prefer. Still, if I'd never tried the mojo I'd be delighted with this. I recommend trying both alongside each other. All in all, this is a solid, high quality pedal the provided a wonderfully natural and dynamic overdrive.

Tubescreamer-tastic
I was originally going to buy a tubescreamer or the excellent EHX green river drive but although both those pedals sound great I only really use that mid hump sound for a few songs. Enter the crayon! It's got some cute graphics on the front and , naturally for EXH , it's built like a tank. I was able to instantly dial in a good SRV style tone proving it could ape the little green box. By using the eq controls tho you can get a whole smorgasbord of tone from piercing trebles to fat bottom end thump. My only gripe about this pedal is you have to have a baby touch on the gain pot. It's really sensitive so unlike other pedal you need to remember where you set it, there's no ballpark here. Only 53 quid so much cheaper than either of the other pedals. I'm buying another as a backup!

A great replacement for my BOSS SD-1
Replaced my BOSS SD-1 nicely. Much prefer the dual tone control of this pedal, as opposed to the mid-hump and single tone knob of the tubescreamer clones.Works very well alone for a lower gain boost up to a classic rock kind of drive. This thing really shines when it’s boosting a heavy distortion or fuzz. It helps to tighten up the tone, along with preserving a lot of clarity and high end.

Good pedal
It does a wide spectrum of overdrive. Sounds good and works well with other pedals. Good value for your cash.

A superb, versatile Overdrive pedal that can achieve great tones without colouring the tone.
A fantastic, responsive Overdrive; it has replaced my 808 Tubescreamer, TC MojoMojo and Rat on my pedal board. I stack it with a Klon Centaur clone as a boost in front, and the EQ controls really make a huge difference when dialling in the right sound for different guitars. For the price, this is the best overdrive I've owned, and the absence of the Tubescreamer Mid hump on the tone is a breath of fresh air. Mild overdrive for chicken-pickin' all the way through to Heavy Skynyrd Rock, all really pick-responsive and Volume knob controllable.

Be careful throws its rattle out pram
The crayon.A great pedal but a bit weird when you first plug it in didn't quite know what i was expecting but i've stuck with it and found its mojo. First off this isn't really transparent like the soul food and the east river drivethink of it like a razor blade with a serrated edge yep it cuts violently if you push it and it doesn't take much to go to far with the drive knob. Separate bass and treble which is a bonus but it actually needs it so you can calm it down a bit.Found mine to be a bit noisy maybe due to being more hi gain to what i'm used to but it could be where it is on my pedal board might be one of those pedals which doesn't play nicely with other pedals so i's a bit of what i'd call a brat pedal i will eventually move it around and see if i can combat this but i might add its not that noisy.Soundwise i've got some good 70s fuzz out of it right up to heavy metal and although its a beast it still might not be heavy enough for some. I actually bought it for that 70s fuzz sound and it has done it brilliantly hence the 5 stars also ehx are killing it at the moment top notch for the price. It's a pedal that needs a lot of tweaking and messing with which is my thing.I like it i like it a lot.

love the sound this gives!
Excellent and cheap pedal, love the sound it gives and the fact you can turn the volume up on the pedal can give you a boost to the over all level which is helpful

A strong addition to any pedal board.
Great value for some warm, marble overdrive tones. Definitely not suitable for a dirty sound, but everything from blues, country or indie-rock. A strong addition to any board.

Nice big overdrive without controllable mid-bump
I was on maybe my 5th OD pedal and nothing was doing the trick. Tube Screamer and Soul Food were great for leads but not for chords (the mid bump!) and the RATT was too RATTY. I had a $25 plexi that sounded good but there was no way to get the tone without the volume WAY too cranked. Timmy does amazing things for clean but did not play well with other ODs so I was not able to have clean and dirt tones I liked. So I was looking for a Blues Driver (or clone) and saw a video for the crayon. I liked it as an alternative to the BD, but with bass and treble options to compensate for the "mid bump" if I need to, and also keep it if I ended up wanted that mid push.1st time with it and I could not dial in the right sound, so I put it to the side and kinda moved on. This week I was playing my Les Paul and decided to give this thing another shot. Glad I did! I was able to get a very Plexi-like 70's Marshal tone in like 5 minutes. For the Strat it took longer, but bass boost and treble cut and the gain a little louder and I was there, especially on the humbucker in the bridge position. The volume and gain work well together so that my clean sound is pretty close in volume and I can use the amp "boost" footswitch and/or my guitar's volume for dynamics. The reviews all say it plays nice with the Soulfood, so I may use that as my lead clean-boost for both with and without the Crayon and see how that goes.

LOVE IT! Ehx you did it again!
Was looking for something very low gain to put after my black finger and this did the trick. The first sort of “stage” (nothing-9 o clock) is like a clean boost anything after that is your classic clipped signal. Works well as a full fledged drive pedal or just to add some spice to a signal. I recommend it to everyone!
