The best ink for vintage pens. (sorry Quink)
The decision of Sheaffer to discontinue the Skrip line left me scrambling to find replacements. I use all kinds of black inks in my pens, from Kaweco, Pilot, Sailor (I quite love Gentle Black), Platinum (carbon black is another favorite), Monteverde . et al.. But Sheaffer had a very special place on my shelf. It was THE black ink that i used in any pen, regardless of vintage or how long i was planning on leaving it in there. I knew it would flow easily, wash out easily and give me a dark black line. I've used it since i was a boy in old Sheaffer pens, from the mid90s flat top range (which were the first such pens i used), to Parkers, Vintage pens of all kinds. I've just never had trouble with this ink. I never was easily able to find a replacement. Parker Quink Black is a very easy ink to clean but is not terribly dark, even as it is very wet. Herbin Perle is gorgeous but i find it tends to dry out very quickly and it is so saturated, i try to use it very quickly in vintage pens. Pelikan, i initially bought to use in pens that have noticeable nib creep, but it is such a phenomenal ink, I've just switched bit by bit, to using it in everything. It isn't as dry an ink as i assumed it would be; nevertheless, in pens with very light flow, i find this ink actually shades up a bit. It's super dark, matte-black normally. It writes smoothly in every pen i've tried. Funnily, Pelikan Blue-Black has taken Skrip Blue-Black's place on my shelf as well. It's every bit as good (if not better). I should mention waterfastness, or "bulletproofness" is not something i typically look for in an ink. I don't care in the slightest for such properties - I actively seek inks that don't have these properties - i just use these inks as daily writers, and so weigh my opinions accordingly. For anyone with a vintage pen collection trying to avoid more alkaline Japanese inks and looking for a nice dark black which won't dry out in a sac or aerometric convertor, this is really the first (and maybe only) ink you should need.

Nice color on a white page.
I am using a nib and pen that needs an easily flowing ink and this does the job quite well. It doesn't blotch and dries quickly. Also since the pen line is fine, I am happy to see that the ink doesn't spread out but keeps the line. Quite pleased with how well it works.

Nice and smooth
This ink has worked well on my fountain pens....antiques and modern. Dense color and quick drying. My new favorite ink.

Easy Flow & Low Bleed
The Pelican 4001 Fountain Pen Ink is a significant improvement over the Cross cartridge ink that I was using so far. The points to note are:- The colours are rich.- The viscosity of the ink is not high and the ink flows well.- The ink does not bleed.- The ink is not water resistant and will smudge upon contact with water.See enclosed images, including the one of the spiral bound notebook where the paper is of low quality, and where Cross ink used to bleed, but Pelican ink does much less. The other image is of writing on cotton paper. Recommended.

A very nice ink
I tried this ink in my fountain pen and was very pleased with the flow of the ink. The ink works well in my pen and I've not had any issues with drying or clogging. I will be trying more of the other colors as well.

nice, dark black ink
This is a nice black ink. It's easy to work with and flows nicely. It's very dark. A bit much for certain type of paper, but works very well on higher quality papers that are good for fountain pens. Has a nice seal that keeps it from leaking and the bottle is a nice shape and size. The price is good for the amount of ink as well.

Excelente.
Ótima tinta turquesa para canetas-tinteiro. Um pouco seca a depender da caneta com que você utilize, o que é usual na série 4001 da Pelikan. Chegou rápido e bem embalada. Não tem muita variação tonal (shading).

Good quality, easy to use
Purchased this to refill a fountain pen and it works very well. The lid is easy to use and minimises messes yet prevents the ink from drying out between uses. The ink itself is smooth and hasn't separated. The re-filled fountain pen works like a charm and hasn't clogged!

Excelente tinta
