3 CD COLLECTION OF THE FINEST AVALABLE LIVE STEELY DAN RECORDINGS As extraordinary as the music of Steely Dan remains, the how and why of it all coming about is stranger still. The joining forces of two nerdy students - one an English Lit. major, the other a musical prodigy in the late 1960s could hardly be seen as the most promising recipe for success, nevermind a springboard for the creation of perhaps the most unique, creative, musically adventurous, enormously listenable and downright joyous run of albums in the entire history of pop music. But despite it all that was what the mighty Dan achieved during the 1970s and beyond, and as those records continue to inspire just about everyone who hears them, the mystery remains. Steely Dan however were essentially a studio band. The complexity of their arrangements mixed with the reluctance of the group s two protagonists - the supremely gifted Walter Becker and Donald Fagen - to go out on the road meant that live performances were a rarity. That said however, when they were persuaded to perform, the shows were nothing short of wonderful. This unique 3 x CD box set features a collection of such live material, all of which was broadcast at the time on FM radio, thus ensuring perfect audio quality. From recordings made in 1974 - during the early part of the group s career - and again almost two decades later in 1993, when the pair had reformed for live events and couple of new albums. In completion this beautifully packaged collection features almost four hours of live Steely Dan, from performances that quite simply must be heard to be believed.

Have loved this band since buying Katy Lied and The Royal ...
Have loved this band since buying Katy Lied and The Royal Scam on impulse just after taking my last A level in May '76....is it really over 40 years!!!!. That hot summer with the drought was memorable and listening to these albums outside in the searing heat made me feel like i was living in California and that feeling always is still there when i listen to the band now. Would have loved to see them live but it has never happened. I was thrilled to see this release and it does not disappoint....nearly 4 hours of live Steely Dan. Their sound is so unique and really never dates...i strongly recommend anyone who has never heard them to do so...perhaps Katy Lied would be a good starter but this is a matter of opinion. To all those converted please do buy this...it has made my start to 2017 so special.

Interesting live material
Some interesting live material here. Though not as smooth as the albums it is fascinating to see how Becker and Fagen manage the concert stage.

poor audio quality
I was looking forward to this treble disc live recordings of the wonderful steely dan. I have all their studio albums but to be honest the sound quality of these are really poor , I'm not sure if the band authorised these but my guess is they didn't as they have always had very strict quality control .Buy these if you wish to hear different interpretations of some of their songs but don't expect the usual hi fi sound..

Buyer Beware - this is a Bootleg
Buyer beware. This is most definitely an unofficial release not sanctioned by the band whatsoever so treat with caution as you would with any Bootleg (legal or otherwise). The audio quality, as others have mentioned, is mixed and I doubt sourced from the original tapes. The first disc sounds mostly pretty good. The 2nd is murky and overly compressed. The 3rd from the 90s is high quality audio but is (possibly by accident rather than design) presented in Mono.
