We live in Florida and have about 1 acre of grass surrounded by about 5 acres of heavy woodland. We have had ongoing battles with armadillos since we moved here. I have tried a variety of recommendations: insecticide for grubs (doesn't affect worms which they love), traps (they break out), cayenne pepper, and mothballs to no avail. Our yard looked like a battlefield. So I decided to test this castor oil against mole and groundhog pellets to see if either worked, and which was better. I staked off 3 sections of my most desirable lawn (desirable to armadillos, that is) in equal portion. In the first I spread the pellets at the recommended dosage. In the second I applied castor oil at 1/2 the dose suggested on the bottle, mixed with dish detergent and water as directed. In the third I applied the recommended dose of the same mix. The next morning, the pellet covered lawn evidenced about a 50-70% reduction in digging. But amazingly, both areas of castor oil application had no hole whatsoever! It has now been about 10 days since I applied the mixes, and except for maybe 1 or 2 small "test" holes, the castor oil applied areas remain free of diggings. The pellet area also is much better than previously, but it still has relatively frequent hole, a few of which are deep. Not sure why others have found this less effective, but for me it has truly worked wonders.

Easy to use. This alone did not remove the moles but they seem to have not continued to surface in the areas where I treated them with the castor oil. The oil along with sonar yard stakes is my next approach.

We have a very large yard, 3 acres. You can’t get rid of all the moles. However a particular area seemed to be very attractive to them, probably a couple thousand square feet, plus some other areas. Just too much area for the worms, gas sticks etc. I mixed according to directions, sprayed a couple gallons, several times, about a week apart, and now no new mole hills or trails. Obviously they are not gone, just driven away from the surface. We just use the half gallon jug of Costco dishwasher soap to mix in. Seems to work great! I suspect if you don’t keep up with the application the moles will eventually return. But at least it is not harsh chemicals or poison. Too bad, I had fun using the gas sticks.

The product itself seems good! However the description of how to mix the caster oil with dish soap and then add a few drops of the caster oil and dish soap mix in a larger volume of water seemed a little off to apply to the lawn. This mix description was presented on the side of the product. Caster oil does not mix well with anything like dish soap or water, it separates quickly and floats on top of the water. So to be able to apply this mixture in a sprayer to the lawn is difficult. I will not buy this product again to use as a mole deterrent and would not recommend it.

What a joke. This stuff doesn't work on the Moles. I still have moles digging up my yard where I used this Castor oil.

A very good product

FOR 18 years we have been battling moles in our rural steep hilly yard. Every small patch of level space and worse, the slopes, have been slowly decimated by *herds* of moles. Tried using soil pounders, lawn rollers, buzzers, spring traps, even "steamrolling" the patches with my truck [NOT easy]. ZIP. Back in a day. Someone I know mentioned Castor Oil, but had low confidence in their knowledge. So I "did my own research" [lol] and came across this product. On the gallon label as well as online, you will find the suggested ratios of Castor Oil, surfacant [dawn with a duck], and water. I invested in a high quality electric sprayer [Milwaukee] and gave it a try. I'm flabbergasted at the results. I want those 18 years of pounding back. Full disclaimer: this very effective method will require multiple applications as the not-dead moles will return if the concentration of Castor oil diminishes, maybe monthly, hopefully longer. I'm very O.K. with that. Between this Castor Oil for Moles, and my Vinegar concentrate weed killer, I am facing down two of my biggest yard maintenance tasks with 100 percent natural solutions, pardon the pun. HIGHLY Recommended. The gallon quantity says 20,000 square feet coverage. With my battle plans in place, I'll need another 4 gallons to to reach my goal. Oh boy.

Not effective against a horde of moles - and let’s face it - they’re always in a horde. This product is akin to a rubber bullet - it might sting a little, but it ain’t gonna kill you. In my decades long battle, I’ve found the best defense against moles is Milky Spores. They’re sold here, and the price is comparable to hardware stores - even better if you have Prime shipping- and shame on you if you do. Milky Spores attack and kill the Japanese Beetles (grubs) that moles crave. Kill the beetles and the moles move on. Milky Spoors come in both powder and granule form. The powder requires less product but keener distribution, while the granular is spread with a broadcaster, and watered in. Apply once a quarter with the seasons and you’ll never see a mole again. So, yeah, compared to Milky Spores, the ‘mace’ just won’t cut it.

It’s a bit like taking vitamins – very hard to tell what effect it has. Having applied at exactly according to the instructions I am now overwhelmed with moles. Being an American product, it has some peculiar mixing and dosage instructions – for example, having mixed it ‘add eight tablespoonfuls to a gallon of water in a sprayer’. Difficult! Simply state the volume!
