A trap of many uses !
Even though this trap is made for catching minnows, it also can help get rid of snakes lizards or many other small unwanted things around your house. It looks nice, very strong for its size, and also easy to use. Comes with a nice coating on the metal to ensure it to last a long time. Well worth the money.

Nice design, worth the money.
This is a really nice minnow trap. I was a little worried about spending so much as compaired to other traps but it is a good design and I'm glad I bought this one. I'm using it in tidal creeks to catch mud minnows. I bait it up with a couple dead finger mullet sliced up a bit or a balled up piece of bread. Both seem to work. I point the funnel end down stream ( at low or falling tide ) and leave it for an hour or two. I cant believe how many minnows get in this trap. I cull out the small ones and have more than I need for the rest of the day. The side door is nice to use and provides a nice big opening for getting your bait out. It is much more conveniant dumping the minnows into the hatch on my minnow bucket than the funnel types I have had in the past. No more stuck minnows in the narrow crease at the cone end. I will be buying another one of these when the time comes.

Trap is Holding Up Well...
I've had it outside for months in several hours per day of direct sunlight, and the thing seems to be unphased (I will update should the coating fall apart anytime soon). The door closes securely, and, from what I can tell, what gets in does not get out. I like the value and the design.

10 times better than a cigar shaped trap.
Very sturdy design, good quality metal and coating. Double handles to carry/tie off to dock. Good spring loaded entry door and design to keep it in place is well thought out and works very well. Single piece cage design so you don't have to worry about clasps to hold together like the cigar type traps. It is thicker guage wire to keep trap solid & sturdy and non cigar shape keep it in place on river bottom. Doesn't roll around, stays in place where you want it with no additional weights needed. I live on canal off of Detroit river with enough current to keep water moving most of the winter. It is a Gobi killing machine (invasive species), catches lots of chubs for bobber fishing and a few larger shiners as well as very small perch, rock bass etc.. doesn't seem to be able to hold the smaller shiners but is early in year so they are not in big numbers yet, which is why i gave it only 4 stars. Will update over early summer to let you know if it catches the smaller minnows good for walleye fishing on the river. But if you want larger minnows/chubs for fishing, this is the tool to get it done. Fun for my 4 yr old daughter to check the trap with dad, she throws the Gobi's into the garden.

... ago because the one i bought last year was pretty much destroyed by salt water where it was welded
Bought my second Frabill trap a couple of weeks ago because the one i bought last year was pretty much destroyed by salt water where it was welded. Does a great job of catching mud minnows!

BUY IT (replace the spring)
ok the cage itself is great. the spring on the other hand sucks you got to unhook it to open the door. and the spring if pulled to hard will not recoil which shows the spring is cheap. real good fix is go to walmart buy 1/4 braided elastic and use a fishing swivel do one full loop, tie it and hook the swivel onto the handle. TRUST ME you will love the cage SO MUCH MORE. but overall its a VERY VERY GOOD CAGE WELL WORTH THE PRICE if you can deal with the spring or fix it. i did a fancy paracord wrap to make a carry handle between the eyes and a lead off to retrieve it.

Lets go Fishin
I purchased this item for my dad for fathers day and it seemed to have great reviews as far as being a great bait catcher. It is sturdy construction and the metal has a plastic coating on it.I was a little worried about durability in the water for a long time due to some of the other minnow traps I seen online but this one seems like it can handle the challenge. It also has a door that slides on the side for easy access.I want to brag on the company that makes this item Plano manufacturing i had to call to get a new spring for the door because dummy me stretched it out as soon as i got it my fault not the products and they responded very quickly to my emails and sent me out a new spring at no cost to me sent via ups.So overall great customer service!! which today is hard to come by.I would defiantly purchase any of this company's products again. ( NOTE PICTURE WITH THE SPRING ON THE DOOR IS OLD SPRING NEW SPRING IS MUCH TIGHTER AS IT SHOULD BE)

Catches pinfish for bait.
I've tried other traps to catch pinfish. This one works. Others had zero pinfish when used in the exact same location with the same bait. I'm guessing the openings and/or mesh were too large, allowing the pinfish to escape. The only drawback is that it does corrode after extended use in our brackish water.
