Stormy Kromer Mackinaw Cap - Wool Winter Hat with Ear Flaps, Brimmed Outerwear Hat

I have a couple of these for hunting and outdoors, great warmth and construction and look!

Exactly what I was looking for. Fit is exact.Plan to buy another.

I love this hat. I also have the hunter’s orange one. To be honest, with the grey one, it’s about a shade darker than the one shown in the photo. But, I’m not really bothered by that. I mention it merely because there are people for whom that might be a problem. Anyway, yes, I love this hat.Also, I’ll just mention my system for getting a better fitting cap. Whether it’s a baseball cap, a cap like this, whether it’s made from mostly wool, cotton, insulated or uninsulated, etc. first of course I order it in my size (7 3/8). I pop it on and check to see how it fits. Whether it fits a bit snugly or a bit loosely, I immediately go to the bathtub and run warm water over it for a good 3 or 4 minutes. Most hats have a water repellent, which is fine. But that’s why I run it for 3-4 minutes. I get it pretty soaking wet and then if it fit a bit snugly, I pull out a bunch of rags and t-shirts I don’t wear and jam them in the hat, expanding it’s size a bit. Then I let it sit on a rack above the shower so it can drip water and dry itself for a day or two. If it was too loose, I do the exact same thing with the water soaking but, afterwards, I don’t put anything in the hat. Just hang it above the bath in the same manner to drip dry for a day or 2. It will shrink a tiny bit if it’s not stuffed with anything intended to expand it. If it fits completely how I want it to, then I’ll put 1 or 2 t-shirts but not enough to expand it.

I lost my original SK hat that I bought in 2007 or 08, I LOVED that hat. I bought another but it was really thin with the depth being weirdly deeper, I returned it and bought the Mackinaw version, it was a little thicker with that weird deeper depth of the cap. It's OK and I'll keep it but it isn't as thick and natural feeling as my old Stormy Kromer hat which I'm still hoping shows up somewhere around the house! It seems almost everything isn't what it used to be.

The hat is well constructed and is a true winter hat. The ear flaps are effective at keeping my ears warm.

I am starting to see many Knock-offs of the Stormy Kromer caps lately. The originals are hard to find.I've had one for over 10 years and worn it during every Winter in a lot of snow and rain.Because it is all wool it will naturally shrink over time due to moisture so when I bought this one I went 1 size bigger...it comes with a serial number and a lifetime warranty. If you are planning to just wear it sparingly in the weather get your normal size. If not, do what I did. I am quite happy with my purchase.

With the hat coming from the US over the Christmas holidays it took forever to dispatch, in fact its travel time to get here was less than the time it took to dispatch. But its worth it!Overall im very happy with it , the materials are excellent ,the cotton interior lining is brushed so it does resist sweat a little bit, the mackinaw wool is of good quality also, the stitching is a bit wide of the mark in places but still looks OK.the ear band covers 9/10ths of my ears which is perfect, I don't think they are ever meant to cover your ears totally . the fit is excellent, if you want a hat to fit a little looser buy a size up , these hats are supposed to be snug and stay on in strong wind.Unique product for the UK, no one else will have one! keeps head and ears warm, comfortable to wear.
