A bargain - patently
Having recently bought myself a dinner suit (I stumbled across a bargain that equated to less than the cost of hiring one), the only missing part of the jigsaw was the black patent shoes. On receiving an invitation to a black tie wedding, the time had come to address the footwear issue. I probably wear a dinner suit no more than once a year, so on that basis, didn't really want to spend a fortune on shoes that are likely to spend 364 days a year in a dark cupboard. When I found these on Amazon, I was struck firstly by the price which seemed incredibly low for a pair of shoes, but secondly by the number of highly positive reviews. I ordered the shoes on the basis that I could always send them back if the size was wrong or if I was unhappy with the quality. When I first took them out of the box, I was immediately impressed with the look and feel of the shoes. They appeared to be very solid and well made and the patent finish was immaculate. Pretty much every pair of shoes I own are a UK size 9 which is what I'd ordered and I was delighted to find that these were a perfect fit - plenty of room for the toes and not too narrow. I wore them around the house for a couple of evenings to wear them in and at times forgot I actually had shoes on as opposed to slippers. They were extremely comfortable and supple with plenty of 'give'. I felt a very slight rubbing on the back of one heel, so on the day of the wedding, put a plaster on just as a precaution.I had the shoes on for around nine hours at the wedding and experienced absolutely no discomfort whatsoever. In fact, I became quite attached to my new shoes over the course of the day. Not only did they look the part, but they felt very light (perfect for the dance floor!) yet very well made. When I got home, I put each one into its own drawstring cloth bag, supplied with the shoes, that will protect the patent finish from any scratches or blemishes.Other reviewers have mentioned the smell, which does hit you instantly the moment you take them out of the box. It's hard to describe, but it's a not unpleasant sweet 'plasticine/rubber/bubblegum' aroma. I didn't notice the smell once on the day of the wedding, but on the basis that a female friend of mine bought a pair of Vivienne Westwood shoes that were purposely bubblegum scented, I'm viewing this feature as yet another attraction. Believe me, she paid an awful lot more for her shoes than I did for mine. So, in summary, they look the part, the fit is perfect, they're extremely comfortable and they smell great. Add in the price point, and I could not give these shoes anything less than five stars. If like me, you only have an occasional need to wear a dinner suit and are looking for a pair of black patent shoes to complete the outfit, then I would highly recommend these.

Excellent for the money!
If you paid sub £25 for these, then they're are an excellent deal. Not leather (well the internal sock is, but the rest is man made), but as they are "occasional" at best for me, this is of no concern. They look fantastic, they seem comfy, they do come up large, which is a good thing for me as I always need wide fittings.I'm going to wear some cushioned insoles in them just to snug them up.The smell you'll read about in the other reviews is present here too, but to be honest, it's just like a shoe smells when you've just had it re-soled. Not a deal breaker, wasn't planning on asking many people to sniff my feet anyway. ;)I'll be giving them a proper try out at a Black Tie Awards Evening next week and will report back after a long evening wearing them.

Good value
No half sizes, so I bought a 9 instead of 8.5 - difficult to judge whether an 8 would fit; probably not wide enough, which for me is very important. They are very comfortable, but I will need an insole. They are also quite long. Nevertheless good value for my purposes (very occasional wear in group performances). The smell, commented on by others, goes after a few days in the garage. Cannot comment on durability, but they look reasonably well made.

total surprise
You'd think for the money you'd be saying: "OK these shoes are pretty cheap and nasty but I knew what I was getting and since I wear a DJ once or twice a year it's fair enough, they are black and shiny so why pay more?" This was my expectation but how wrong I was. They are nicely built, comfortable with a trendy but still conservative 'square-ish toe' and come in nice little scratch protector bags. I am totally delighted and glad I did not bother paying £80 somewhere else. These look and feel the part. Job's a goodun.

Great shoes for the price
Great dress shoes, only problem is they are a little uncomfortable however I have this problem with a lot of shoes due to wide feet and especially dress shoes not sure if it's the shoes or me. so overall they're pretty good would recommend :)

These shoes are great and as an entertainer I wear them frequently
These shoes are great and as an entertainer I wear them frequently. They are comfortable and look more expensive than they are. Each shoe comes in it's own protective pouch which saves them getting scratched and worn when they're being hauled around the country in my suitcase.I've had the several months now and they still look brand new.

Cheaply made and terrible smell
They arrived by Amazon left on my porch in the pouring rain and the package and box was soaking wet! I opened them and straight away there was an awful smell. On quick inspection the left shoe was faulty and had bad stiching and glue sticking out around the sole. I obviously returned them for a refund. I also tried them on and they were not very comfortable. You know what they say buy cheap, buy twice.
