Its fine particle size allows easy administration through small feeding tubes, making it ideal for emergency, recovery, and weaning situations. High in fiber and free from added sugars and preservatives, it supports digestive health and rapid recovery across all life stages. ## Description Product Description Some recovery and emergency cases require added versatility when it comes to delivering critical nutrition. Critical Care Fine Grind contains the same essential nutrition as Critical Care, but in a finer particle size made to flow easily through nasogastric feeding tubes as small as 5 Fr. Because of its smaller particle size, Critical Care Fine Grind is ideal for use with small and young patients. Safety Warning See product for details. Review: An absolute life saver! - Purchased to feed a sick bunny who was unable to eat for themselves for a number of weeks. This stuff is the best if you have a poorly small herbivore. The superfine powder mixes easily with luke warm water to make a paste to use in a syringe. The larger syringes meant for this purpose were too large for our bun so we opted to use a smaller, 3ml syringe instead. This formula didn't clog up the syringe and was accepted by our bunny without too many issues. It stabilises gut health and provides all the fibre needed to kick start a sluggish gut or just to keep your little one from going into stasis. Highly recommended. I've not found a better product for this purpose although it is on the expensive side, especially when you're needing to feed regularly. Review: A must have for bunny moms - Finally a recovery formula that doesn’t clump and separate in the syringe, my poor bun has a mild case of stasis because of the heat and this has been a life saver - I have been using the selective recovery formula for the past couple of days and it completely separated and is a nightmare to use. This oxbow formula mixes perfectly and is super easy to give - which when you’re up every 3 hours feeding a poorly bun is exactly what you need! ## Features - Designed specifically to support the needs of small herbivores - Powdered formula - just add water - High in fiber, no added sugar - High palatability ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B004W78400 | | Age Range Description | All Life Stages | | Age range (description) | All Life Stages | | Allergen Information | Preservative-Free | | Animal Food Diet Type | Veterinary Diet | | Animal Food Ingredient Claim | Additive-Free | | Animal Food Nutrient Content Claim | High Fiber | | Benefits | Supports recovery and digestion with essential nutrients and high fiber | | Best Sellers Rank | 13,275 in Pet Supplies ( See Top 100 in Pet Supplies ) 244 in Small Animal Food | | Brand | Oxbow | | Brand Name | Oxbow | | Breed Recommendation | small / 1 | | Container Type | Bag | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,721 Reviews | | Dog Breed Size | Small | | Flavour | Unflavoured | | Item Form | Powder | | Item Type Name | Critical Care Herbivore | | Item Weight | 0.22 Pounds | | Item form | Powder | | Manufacturer | Oxbow Animal Health LLC | | Manufacturer Part Number | 103-460-0100 | | Model Number | 744845701103 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Occasion | Birthday | | Package Size Name | 44G | | Pet Type | Small Animal | | Recommended Uses For Product | emergency feeding, recovery, illness, weaning | | Special Features | Fine grind texture for easy tube, syringe, or spoon feeding | | Special Ingredients | Timothy Grass Meal, Soybean Hulls, Wheat Germ, Flaxseed, Papaya, Pineapple | | Special ingredients | Timothy Grass Meal, Soybean Hulls, Wheat Germ, Flaxseed, Papaya, Pineapple | | Specific Uses For Product | Small Breeds | | Specific uses for product | Small Breeds | | Target Species | Rabbit or Guinea Pigs | | UPC | 798256227165 744845701103 764999872252 771948746427 744845931241 802696519831 781163063810 744845965000 | | Unit Count | 3.53 gram | ## Product Details - **Age range (description):** All Life Stages - **Brand:** Oxbow - **Flavour:** Unflavoured - **Item form:** Powder - **Specific uses for product:** Small Breeds ## Images ![Oxbow Critical Care Herbivore - Nutritionally Complete Feeding Assist Formula for Small Animals & Pets - Critical Care Herbivore Fine Grind Papaya (100g) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81SFrcS9SEL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: does this have the anise smell to it, or is it different** A: Hi, I don't recall it having any type of anise smell. I no longer use it & just use my blender to grind down their own nuggets & mix it with fresh parsley, grass of whatever their favourite green is, with some warm water & probiotic powder & it does the job great. Its cheaper & more convenient too. **Q: Does this come with a syringe?** A: It doesn’t come with a syringe. I got the small syringes for it online, after the ones from the vets ran out. **Q: How long does one pack last? Thanks** A: Depends on what animal you're feeding & how many feeds a day. My Guinea only needs "Top up" feeds so I only make up 1/2 a tablespoon of critical care a day & our packs last well over a month ! The packet says to feed 3tabs per1kg of body weight a day if they are not eating at all but I've never known a rabbit or guinea to accept that much! Even at that amount I would think a pack would last well over a week. Hope that helps a bit **Q: How do you feed this to Rabbit? Do you add to food?** A: No normally it is mixed with water and syringe fed carefully by mouth. Vets like it because it mixes well with water and can easily be administered Or even tube fed (a veterinary task only). Consult your vet if your rabbit had been off food for longer than12-24hours. Often this can mean a serious issue which requires urgent veterinary intervention to save the rabbit e.g. Overgrown teeth , intestinal blockage or impaction with hair or food. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute life saver! *by L***W on 12 September 2023* Purchased to feed a sick bunny who was unable to eat for themselves for a number of weeks. It is not nutritionally sound for hamsters though (since they are not total herbivores) so you should bear that in mind. Since I am just needing to fatten my little one up and not fully replace solid food it works a charm. After the first force feeding he has decided he loves the stuff and will wait by the cage door for me to mix it up, sniffing the air the second I open the packet. Even as a fine grind it can be difficult to draw into a small syringe for such a small animal. My syrines are thin and go up to 10ml which just about works well, you do have to dilute it perhaps a little more than reccomended. You generally want it to be as paste-like as possible while also being able to draw up the syringe. Since hamsters have minimal liquid requirements in a day they can get a touch too much water from this mix if they are insiting on more. ## Frequently Bought Together - Oxbow Critical Care Herbivore, Fine Grind, Emergency Rabbit & Guinea Pig Food, Natural Papaya Flavor, Veterinary Formula, Critical Care Herbivore, Assist Feeding Formula for Pets, 100 gram bag - Oxbow Animal Health Natural Science Digestive Support, High Fiber Supplement for Rabbit & Guinea Pig, Made with Timothy Hay, Includes Chicory Root, Ginger Root, Chamomile, Made in USA, 4.2 oz Bag --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.cy/products/48783062-oxbow-critical-care-herbivore-nutritionally-complete-feeding-assist-formula-small](https://www.desertcart.com.cy/products/48783062-oxbow-critical-care-herbivore-nutritionally-complete-feeding-assist-formula-small) --- *Product available on Desertcart Cyprus* *Store origin: CY* *Last updated: 2026-10-12*
