Pretty good
These scales are pretty good, and surprisingly accurate...as long as you place them on a hard flooring and not a pile carpet. I used them on my kitchen floor which has a firm/hard wearing cushion floor covering. They weighed almost exactly the same as the scales at my doctors. I weighed at home before going the other day, and the doctor weighed me 30 minutes later and the difference was 0.1 of a kilo. So I am happy that they are okay. The buttons are behind the display, on the edge. This isn't a very good place for them and it makes using them a bit fiddly. I'd also recommend that you keep your eye on the BMI/Muscle/Water content etc. figures as once they are calculated they don't stay visible for long (you must step on the scales in bare feet to calculate water, muscle, BMI etc). The scales are easy to set up. I really don't know why others have had problems. I read the manual. It's brief, but to the point. And then I entered my details. Takes all of a few seconds.Good points: accurate weighing on hard surfaceBad points: buttons aren't optimally placed, and you have to be quick to catch the black and white display as it cycles through the other details such as BMI and water content.

Strongly recommended buy
I've never left a product review on Amazon before but I felt compelled to do so for these scales as I remembered there being a few 1 star ratings and I feel this is completely unfair.Bear in mind I've literally only just received and tested these scales, so I have no idea as to their longevity, but the quality of their build does seem really high so I'm sure they'll last me a long time. The 1 star ratings seem based on the opinion that these scales are difficult to program, but I must say: this simply isn't the case. I had the whole thing set up in about two minutes and had my weight, BMI, bodyfat percentage, body water percentage and muscle mass percentage. You merely turn the scales on with a quick tap, press set, choose a profile, and then modify the data (such as age, height etc.) as it appears. You do have to keep up some momentum with the input to stop the scales from reverting to 0, and this might mean going through the steps a couple of times until you know what's what, but it really isn't a laborious task, and I know that when I come to enter my girlfriend's data for her, I'll get it first time. What is also good about these scales is that it tells you what each reading is as you receive them. I've read some reviews of other products saying that they just feed the user a series of numbers, but these are perfectly readable, and the manual provides simple charts to interpret the output.Further, the scale can be set to kilograms, stones and lbs, or just lbs, while I've read that others don't output in stones, which would be a bit of a pain. These scales look and feel really high quality too; they're really a very attractive product. Finally, the holder that allows them to be stored upright is a really cool feature, as it saves space and prevents all sorts of damage and spills, I would imagine. As long as the scales last me, I would say that this is pretty much a perfect product for what it is, and for the price.

May have an annoying fault?
Firstly, this is not a great product, the way of entering your information and then selecting your presets is not exactly user friendly. It reminding me of setting the time on an old casio digital watch. So in 2012, the electronics feel antiquated. The build quality is OK, but nothing to rave about, there isn't a solid feel to them or anything - but they are small and slim - so perhaps the two are not compatible. The stand is OK, just a bit of plastic - not exactly classy. Again it feels dated.BUT.... the big problem, and I suspect others have had this problem, the battery drains in the scales even if not in use.I have come back to my scales after not using them for a few weeks and puzzled why they didn't switch on. Since I hadn't used them very much it didn't occur to me to change the battery for a while - when I did, hey presto, it worked. Then I returned to the scales, again after a few weeks and they didn't work again?????? Yes, you guessed it the battery was flat. Unless you have a huge stock of CV3 batteries and don't mind changing them regularly - this makes them a real annoyance. Again a bit like electronics in the 80s!Amazon, as ever, have been great and offered to refund, and i will be buying a different pair of scales - perhaps a simpler set with less promised features - the features seem more fuss than they are worth.Don't bother with these scales, BMI and all the other readings - are easier enough to work out - without having to set up the machine to do it for you, which sound convenient but actually not.

Ok for weight
I've been using this for a couple of months now.Firstly it is very simple to use, ignore all comments about setup being impossible - I did check the documentation to find out the difference between N and A (normal body versus athlete) but otherwise simple. The weighing part seems accurate too, simply in that it doesn't change every time you get on the scales. However the body fat, water and muscle is wildly off. I am 40% of everything which would make me an obese muscle man. I'm a skinny geek. I got this as part of Tim Ferriss 4 Hour Body - and had to create a spreadsheet to average out 3 to 5 readings of my body fat/water/muscle to try to get any sense from it, and it still goes all over the place. After a few weeks of basically having electricity shot through my lower legs 3 or 5 times every morning, I started getting numbness in my legs by the early afternoon. I'm sure that won't be a problem if you just use it once a week to check your stats, but I wouldn't recommend repeated daily measures.I'm now just checking my weight, which is still fine, and the scale looks cool and stores neatly.. but don't get it for the added features.
