A must read if you are interested in the history of the Levant.
More than comprehensive. Very slow reading because virtually every point is attributed to other writers. The best thing about the book is that it is evidence based and factual. It clearly separates what is myth and stories from what is real history. I certainly increased my vocabulary as there are many subject specific words which I hadn't come across before. Although a somewhat difficult read, it is well worth persevering. Moreover it is worth a second or third reading because of the enormous factual content.

A COUNTRY ON ITS OWN!
This book makes its point that Palestine has been axregion for four thousand years, and has sometimes been semi- independent in that period. It has its own culture, efuzcation, and history, and is much more than a twentieth century creation. An essential corrective to those who think it is.

Excellent book.
Great historical coverage. I would suggest it as a starter book for anyone interested in Palestine, and as a compulsory read for anyone who believes Palestine didn't exist, prior to 1947.

Terrific read - marred to some extent by lapses in editing and production.
This is a real tour de force, and I do genuinely feel that I have a better understanding of what constitutes Palestine today, and why what is happening there is such a particular tragedy. I do have reservations, however. One major failing is a lack of maps. Without a clear geographical picture of the area in your mind it is sometimes quite hard to follow the movements - social, political and economic with which the book concerns itself. There is also a problem with some of the editing and, possibly, translation. The book needs some serious proof-reading. There are sections that repeat themselves; there are linguistic turns of phrase that do not always make sense. So, for example, the terms "former" and "latter" are sometimes used back to front. And I would still recommend that you read this book. Given the current circumstances of Palestine, this book provides an education which is sorely needed.

Book not well kept for sale
When I ordered this book, the platform shown left 2 books, so I quickly bought it. But never expect that when I received the book, the goods was in bad shape: it is old and a bit dusty outside, the pages are folded and the edge of the book is being damaged. Overall this book is somehow being kept for a long time and pushed by other books to a corner, it is not well kept for sale. I have no comment on the story of this book.

comprehensive and insightful
Masalha's meticulous research traces Palestine's rich history, from ancient times to the present day, shedding light on its diverse cultures, religions, and peoples. Through a balanced narrative, the author challenges prevailing narratives and examines the multifaceted layers of identity, politics, and conflicts that have shaped the land. Highly recommended.
