Life changing
If you truly care about your health, read this book.I found it to be 100% life changing. We're so used to being told the same old things by the media, our GP etc. I urge you to do your own research and read this book. The book takes a look at the real, scientific evidence and route causes, and shares practical insight and knowledge to help prevent and treat pretty much all illnesses. The book covers sooo much. So much I had NO idea about. I learnt so much about an illness I've been living with since a child - information so invaluable I should have been told it somewhere along the line. Thankful for this book.

Readable
I devoured this book, finding it fascinating, and put many of the principles into practice which made me feel great, alongside an exercise DVD. I still remember and follow much of the advice two years later. All of my friends and family heard about this book - it contains very interesting explanations for things which are highly motivating once you know in detail why something is bad for you, and what continued exposure will do to you. Its well written in a way thats easy to understand and read quickly. This book was the catalyst for a tremendous change in diet for me. I worked in a fast food restaurant for nearly a decade, and since reading this (and leaving my job) I've been able to talk myself out of the wrong food choices much more often and I feel in better health nearing thirty than I did when I was young - I was ill almost monthly catching everything going, I had frequent insomnia, now I have had one cold on two years and sleep with no problems. My skin has also vastly improved, with adult acne becoming the odd spot and eczema on every limb reducing to slight eczema on my hands - so I've still some way to go. Namely sorting out food allergies, but all change needs to happen one step at a time!

Updated information
I had the original book of Optimum Nutrition when at college some years back, this book is the updated version. Highly recommend, whether studying Nutrition or general reading. Patrick Holford writes his books so everyone can understand the information.

Brilliant! Buy a copy if you care about your health.
This book is well researched, comprehensive and easy to read. It's full of amazing facts that our GPs don't tell us. Food is our medicine, the food industry is becoming a major problem due to animals being injected with hormones and antibiotics that are being passed on to us and causing new medical conditions. EVERYONE should read this book and live by it, I'm already vegetarian and drink soya milk but I'm now thinking about cutting out dairy products completely due to the harm they can cause us. Milk now contains high oestrogen levels which is causing breast cancer and fibroids in women and testicular cancer in men and the onset of the male menopause....how is this right?! And we all think milk is very nutritioous and good for us and our children! A brilliant eye-opener, and worth every penny, thanks Patrick for your passion and knowledge on this very important subject!

Some Reservations
"The New Optimum Nutrition Bible" is excellent in many ways, and full of interesting and accurate information, with dietary advice that is, in general, sound, though I would have some reservations about the fairly heavy emphasis on supplements and fairly expensive blood tests, and, while these are, of course, optional, they may be beyond the pockets of many readers. The book is very much about personal health, without any side-trips about saving the environment, animal welfare, or ethical vegetarianism, and is none the worse for that, as there are many excellent books which cover these issues, along with the personal health aspects. I would, however, be concerned about the accuracy (or the provenance) of some of the claims in this particular Bible:The comparison (on page 283) that the incidence of breast cancer in China is 1 in 100,000 women compared to an incidence of 1 in 10 women in Britain is not backed up by any reference to any study, scientific or otherwise, and does not appear to be borne out by Dr Colin Campbell's "China Study". There is no doubt that the incidence of breast (and other) cancers in rural China IS a good deal lower than in the West, but even in China some cancers were 100 times more frequent in some counties than in others, and I would very much like to know where the "one in 100,000" figure comes from.Mr Holford does not seem to be aware that recommending the purchase of only "cold-pressed" oils is misleading, as this term apparently has no legal force, (i.e. there is no particular temperature defined as "cold")and has nothing, in the final analysis, to do with whether an oil is chemically refined or not (see "Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill" by Udo Erasmus.) I understand that the only unrefined oil normally available in general retail outlets is extra-virgin olive oil.Ths more or less blanket recommendation,in the chapter "Eat Right For Your Blood Type", of the theories of Peter D'Adamo seems ill-advised.While there may be something in these blood-group theories, I understand Mr D'Adamo has not referred to having published any studies supporting his theories in any independent scientific journals, and his diet has been denounced by "all of the leading scientific organizations, including government health organizations, and all the major universities and medical journals that have commented on it": (John Robbins in "The Food Revolution".) D'Adamo's diet has, apparently, pushed many people (Blood Type O & Type B) towards daily meat eating, which is surely a step in the wrong direction, when the thrust of all independent studies of diet in at least the last hundred years is towards a plant-based one, and a reduction or elimination of meat from the diet.
