Mike Bassett - England Manager [DVD]

As a fan of Ricky Tomlinson I thought this film a laugh a minute. When Mike Bassett ( Tomlinson ) lands the England managers job the countryand in particular the British press are astounded. Bassett's time at the helm of the national football team is pretty much a disaster.His players are un fit, rowdy and unable to win. The press pile on the pressure to haveMike sacked as the team look very unlikely to qualify for the World Cup. All's well in the end though for Mike Basset and his lads when they do make the flightto the World cup. An Hilarious British Football Comedy.

If you've followed English football then how can you not love this film? Really well written, directed and the acting by Ricky Tomlinson is genius. You get Oscars given for a load of old pony, but to me he deserved one for this performance. If you watch it but can only find faults and even hate it, then wow.....I feel sorry for you.

I found it boring so didn't watch all the way through I was glad I only rented this it is not Ricky Tomlinsons usual films.If you like football though it may be for you?

This is a brilliant film, done in a kind of documentary style that does wonders for the story. The tale of a bungling manager who finds success domestically and by default gets to manage England's World Cup team. First of all it's funny. I laughed myself out of my chair once. But what it is brilliant at is that shared experience of cheering for England. There are so many wonderful touches that make you laugh. My favorite was the England Argentina match with England's goal coming on a hand ball. Or how about Pele coming into the bar to find Bassett drunk and naked on the piano spouting curses at the Brazilian star. The film also manages to touch you when you least expect it. I think the best films entertain you but also stir something up inside you. Casual or non football fans may not get the mountain of inside jokes. But if you love football and better yet, cheer for England, this is top notch entertainment.

Quite frankly Mr Shankly the best film about football ever made, Mike Basset is the manager England have needed so many times in the past 50 misery soaked years since 66! But as the World Cup has evaded England so have the Oscars and Emmys for the wonderful Mike Basset - England Manager.

The funniest film ever made about football.Superb casting and every rumour and every cliché that you ever heard about football are in there.Barry Venison's jacket, what more could you want?

Very disappointed in all aspects of this film. Lack of humour lack of story line simple lack lustre. Usually a great fan of anything Amazon but this was really not for me.

2018 and England football managers still reflect Mr Bassett. Dvd must for all footy fans. Really funny stuff and so close to the truth of English football team it's uncanny.
