How do they keep their milkshakes long life?

Basically it is all down to biology.  As long as the bottle hasn't been opened the contents remain sterilised and can have a long shelf life.  Once a bottle is opened air gets inside and air contains a lot of bacterial pathogens thus the product becomes infected.  By storing it in a fridge, as one does with fresh sterilised milk the chill slows down the rate at which bacteria multiplies so it is safe to drink for a good day or two after opening.  However, once opened if it isn't kept chilled then any bacteria can rapidly multiply and cause food poisoning.  Like most processed foods, as long as the container remains intact it can last a long time.  Tinned products can last for many years and I still recall a time when during a clear out there were emergency ration packs from the early 1900s and this was during the 1980s.  We couldn't eat the bread as the small squares of bread were as solid as a brick  However, the jam still tasted good even though it had crystalised and the small squares of chocolate were still tasty even though they did have that white fur that chocolate tends to get.  So, due to the packaging being in good condition some of the contents of emergency ration packs were still safe to eat after more than 80 years.  Tinned corned beef can also last decades if the product has been well stored in a cool place and away from moisture.  However, if a tin gets the smallest of punctures in it, usually through erosion then bacteria will enter and it will become dangerous to consume.  These milk drinks can last much longer than the best before date but also has to consider that although it may still be safe to consume the quality will slowly degrade.  Eggs are another product that can be used a good week or two after their best before date but the quality goes from a grade A egg to a grade B and grade B eggs are good for baking with.
