A decent test preparation guide
This book is written to cover the material on the ISTQB Foundation Level exam. It does a good job of stating the ISTQB syllabus objectives and includes a few sample questions in each section. This book would be more self contained with a glossary, although ISTQB has a glossary on their web site.People reading this book should be aware that the Foundation Level exam is heavy on terminology, process, and concepts. As such this book spends quite a bit of time on those topics, but does not give as thorough coverage of how to write good software tests as you will need to do a good job working in this field. There are also some differences in the terminology, and meaning of a few terms between this international exam and the meaning in common usage in the US.

and I have been very disappointed with it
I bought this book on Kindle in order to study for the ISTQB foundation exam, and I have been very disappointed with it. Ironically, it seems that the book itself could have benefitted greatly from some of the same testing procedures it describes. My complaints include the following:- Insufficient graphics, particularly in the early part of the book, to aide the reader in organizing his/her thoughts around the large concepts presented- Errors in the graphics presented, in particular the cutting off (from the Kindle page) of the right side of graphics and tables (I tried viewing in both my Kindle device, admittedly quite old, but also on my computer screen in the Kindle app for mac - problem was seen in both places)- Poorly written text in many places, confusing topics or occasionally making logical errors. This includes poor definitions of terms, poorly written sentences/paragraphs that must be read several times to grasp the meaning (for example the description of control flow graphs in chapter 4 - go to Wikipedia instead and save yourself some effort), and errors in sample questions/solutions where it was clear that the solution writer wasn't responding to the same question as was asked exactly (In example 4.8, the question included B < 3 but the answer was based on B > 3; this was very confusing until I realized the author's mistake.)On the plus side, the material is all there, so far as I can tell, so I guess that counts for something. Still, I find it hard to believe that there isn't any better material out there. Especially at the price charged. My recommendation: use this as a last resort only.

Good, solid study guide to the CTFL exam.
It helped me pass the Foundation Level certification exam. Some of the chapters were hard to follow, and to feel like I understood everything, but I think that is understandable since it is a pretty high-level coverage of the subject. Some chapters were quite enjoyable to read.

Fantastic book for any tester/test manager
I bought this book out of curiosity and I am glad that I did purchase the book (Kindle version). This book wass worth reading. Anyone having some sort of SDLC background should understand the storyline captured by this book and use it in real life. This book is, however, NOT for someone who wants to become a tester. This book will definitely help someone having some sort of SDLC knowledge pass ISTQB Foundation exam.I enjoyed it and I believe it's a good book for people hoping to get ISTQB certified.

A must have book for CTFL candidates and a useful revision for those of us already certified
While my ISTQB certification will never expire I wanted to keep current and capable at this foundation level. This 3rd edition has enabled me to check my understanding and confirm to me I would still pass this exam today. Worth the investment for me.

You can pass the exam using just this book
I will answer the question that most people will probably ask at some point - can I pass the exam without going on a course and use this book exclusively as the course material? The simple answer is, yes, because this is exactly what I did, and I passed first time. The book is excellant. Each chapter is well written and the mini test at the end of each chapter is very useful guide as to whether you've understood what you've learn. The final mock at the end of the book is especially useful in that it will clearly indicate whether you are ready to take the real exam.Learning tips:1. Read through the whole book over a couple of weeks, doing the mini tests, reviewing the questions you inevitably answer incorrectly.2. Re-read the book, this time using a highlighter pen to mark the important point and re-doing the mini tests.3. Over the next few week go through the book again 2-3 times focusing on the bits that you highlighted4. Take the mock exam. If you fail or if you only just pass the test (e.g. 70%), go through the book again for another week5. When you get at least 80% in your mock test you are ready to take the real exam

Help me pass my test
I was lucky that my company paid for me to go on a three day course, with the exam being on the third day in the afternoon. In all honesty, Im grateful my company paid for the expensive course, but I didnt really learn anything from it, i passed my test because of this book. That simple. You dont need the expensive courses, just this book. Read it cover to cover, answering all the end of chapter questions, then, sit the 40 question mock exam at the end of the book and time yourself 1 hour, if you pass that, you are good to go.

If taking the test you should buy the most up-todate version.
I brought this book to help me pass the ISTQB - ISEB foundation certificate. I found the book very clear and informative. However when I got to the exam centre I was informed that I was using the pervious version of the book. This panicked me slightly but I was reassured that "not much of the content had changed" therefor I would recommend that you buy the most up-todate version of this book as I did encounter question which I did not study as part of this text book.

For 3rd Edition for all mock exam questions it would be helpful if all the LO's were included.
I purchased the 3rd Edition of this book because of one of the reviews, by Marc who said that his company paid for him to go on a three day course but he reckons that learned most from this book and because I myself didn't have over £1,000 for a class based course, I also bought this book I have yet to complete the coursework in this book, the only problem I've found with this book is that I being a tester for over 10 years I thought I would run a coverage check to see if the book actually covers all of the exam objectives, which should have been a simple task, that is if the author had thought to include the learning objectives in all of their examination questions included in the book, as per the actual exam questions. So if the next edition (4th) of the book could include the learning objective numbers at in the exam questions and possibly also included at the start of the chapters then it would be easy to verify it does indeed cover all of the exam objectives and then it may be the only one you would need. I have edited my review recently as I found my review for the 3rd edition has now been attached to the 4th edition and I haven't seen the 4th edition but if it includes the LO's for all mock exam questions, then great, I used this book and done the mock exams on the ISTQB website and I was getting a consistently high pass rate, however I havent taken the exam I got a different role and got sidetracked but I will still need to take the exam since I have to test my own apps that I am developing and if and when I do I will put the results in this review. Strange that the 4th edition that came out in 2019 has all the reviews from the 3rd edition and the specs say it has the exact same number of pages, so the seller needs to add more information on what if anything had been added? Apart from a new picture on the cover?

Great book for anyone taking their Foundation exam
I purchased this for working towards my ISTQB Foundation examination. It is written in a concise and novice friendly way, introducing you gently to the concepts of software testing. The authors are clearly knowledgeable and the book contains everything you need to know to pass the exam. I was fortunate enough to attend a 3 day training course prior to sitting the examination and found having read the book previously to have really helped, the course simply cemented the knowledge in my head. I passed the exam with 37/40 and really think this was down to owning and reading this book. This is a must for anyone working towards their foundation!
