I've used the wax and though I like it on smaller things still would choose this varnish. I used the matte. My friends who have used it on my recomendation are happy with it. The other thing I would suggest is to use a varnish brush. **Q: Does it make the paint much darker? I want something that won't alter the colour...** A: It did not change the colour of my paint **Q: Whats more suitable on plaster of paris. The polyvine wax dead flat finish or decorators varnish dead flat?** A: I'm not sure have only used it on chalk paint **Q: Can this be used on bare wood without effecting the colour? I'm using pine but don't want to darken the colour too much.** A: This varnish gives a very flat invisible finish. I used it on oak doors without changing the colour at all. However, I did find the varnish felt a bit sticky after washing an area around the door handle a couple of times - so I covered the doors with Ronseal matt oil varnish - which went on top and provided an invisible durable finish.
