Stunning Oscar Worthy Performance By Cate Blanchett
In my humble opinion, this was her best performance to date. Unfortunately, the Oscar for Best Actress went to Michelle Yeoh for her acting in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'. Hollywood can be so fickle some years. Regardless, 'Tar' is not a film that everyone will enjoy: the running time is almost 2 1/2 hours in length; the storyline may not be what folks want to watch; and the characters may not be likeable. That being said, the film is one of those rare movies where the quality of acting, screenplay writing, and production values are superior to most Hollywood films. This is a character driven film where the story weaves in and out of good versus bad conduct. I might say this is a modern-day Shakespearian plot, but that may not be accurate. What I do specifically remember walking out of the movie auditorium was that I just witnessed one of the best female performances ever. That type of acting does not come along very often, because there are very few legitimate leading actresses around. Cate Blanchett is one of those.

Some would say it is too honest but that is classical performance as it is, red in tooth and claw
If you can watch this film and "Whiplash" at one sitting without flinching, you are a practicing musical professional of at least 2 decades of experience. Be forewarned lol.

Amazing film
This film was so well done, so expertly presented, that I thought the character was a real person. Script, dialogue, cinematography and direction are off the charts. The film is mostly dialogue driven but when the character steps up to conduct an orchestra... the Atmos is so well crafted, that I felt I was in the middle of the orchestra pit, not halfway back in the audience. Loved the film. Whether you like classical music or not, you cannot help but be in awe of this film.

Very interesting movie
Usually we have had to endure to dominant male boss but this is about an abusive female. Cate Blanchard plays the part superbly. In the traditional Hollywood tradition she pays the price with her rapid decline to obscurity. And there is no alcohol or drug abuse involved.

Welcome to the inside world of classical music...
Cate Blanchett's performance as Lydia Tar make this movie a fascinating 3 hours, though much of it leaves the viewer guessing. Using subtitles really helped, and I watched this movie a second time before finally understanding exactly what happened. Really demonstrates how people in power use their arrogance to further their careers while at the same time falling into a spiral they are unable to reverse. Excellent acting on Blanchett's part. The final 20 minutes of the movie are like stepping into The Twilight Zone, and deterred from the movie in general. Certainly not believable and disappointing.Still, Blanchett is so interesting to watch, even when her character makes bad choices.
