Starman [Blu-ray] [1985]

Barry Norman once said that Jeff Bridges was never less than good in a movie. I can't disagree.Starman is JB. And JB is Starman.I first saw Starman on Betamax many many years ago and I've always loved the filmIt's another Oscar nomination for the great man and yet another pass over. He's simply superb in Starman.Everything about the movie is absolutely right.Starman is a truly beautifully invigorating feel good movie and JB was rarely better. He is also rarely worse.Blu Ray PQ is outstanding.An essential movieWell it's Jeff Bridges. How could it be otherwise?

This 1984 science fiction film, has the distinction of being director John Carpenter's biggest box office smash. It's quite easy to see why, it's a kinda E.T for a more mature audience, although the PG rating no doubt helped get a mass audience. The film opens with Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark) mourning her dead husband obsessively. Then an alien life form appears, steals his DNA and becomes his physical clone. The two then embark on a road movie. Kidnapper and victim, hunted by the feds. It has most of the great Carpenter's hallmarks, and in Jeff Bridges, a true movie superstar. I have watched and reviewed every one of his movies, and it's interesting that this one faired so well, whilst outstanding films such as 'The Thing' and 'Big Trouble in Little China' bombed, but such is life and this is, no question, an enjoyable film.

I have loved this since it came out, had it on VHS and now on DVD and cannot get enough of it. Forget your modern crappy Sci-Fi films full of gore, for this is storytelling at its best. Go and buy. You will not regret it.

Everyone knows the plot,I love this film and couldn't provide an unbiased review if my life depended on it.The transfer is good, it was a nice surprise to find a mini cinema poster in the case.Go on buy it you won't regret it

Arrived in a reasonable time, not too much packaging. Watched and enjoyed film story. Story of it’s era bit of a love story, without being sloppy. It’s not a romcom. It’s about an alien stranded, in need of a lift to get home . With a few misunderstandings on the way.

I love this film and as it keeps being shown on tv I decided to add it to my collection.I think this is the best film that Jeff Bridges ever made. The way he moves is awesome.

I have been meaning to get this on dvd for ages, as I have it on video already, but nothing to play it on!!!! So, I am pleased to have found it and to have it in my collection. , Starman is a brilliant film, well acted and just shows how scared the human race would be if an alien really did land! Buy it if you are a fan of sci-fi. I am gradually replacing my favourite videos with dvd's. I am saving up to buy the Miami Vice collection.

This is a great science fiction film that never seems to date. A love story as well, it has a happy and satisfying ending. Very thought-provoking as well in terms of how people in general as opposed to governments would respond to first contact with aliens. One of my favourite films.
