Will that be a problem? Denord please.** A: Yes it will . Needs to be covered with water at all times to keep it from overheating . Overheating will damage the unit .needs to be at least 4to6 inches under water at all times .p **Q: What if you have lower amperage? instead of 12, maybe 3-5 amps. will it still work? just not get as hot?** A: Its 12 volts, not 12 amps. If you have 12v and 3 - 5 amps you will get maybe 36 - 60 watts. It won't get very hot. **Q: Can this be used hooked straight to a 100w solar panel?** A: 150w element 100w panel no offense do the math. It will heat but at 12v 150w takes 4 hrs to heat 5 gallons of water so I doubt your getting a solid 5 hrs full output. Not recommended but might limp through. **Q: Is the internal wire heavy enough to connect 24v and get 600 watts (i.e. double the amps)? Thanks!** A: Hi, I don't think it's possible, you would shorten life to the resistance.
