Nightmare to clean, taste disappointing
Machine smart and looked great in kitchen. Very easy to use then taste...most disappointing despite using correct grinder. Impossible to empty flask, liquid ie coffee gets stuck under rim. Probably rinsed 6 times and then to return had finish with numerous kitchen towels. The rim also oozed coffee down outside. Returned after one four cup use....I should add did not retain heat over 3hrs period.

Worth it
I saw this coffee maker on American Home Test Kitchen. They were right in recommending it. Good size coffee makes 8 cups and thermos decanter keeps coffee warm for hours. Made coffee at 8am and still warm at 2pm. Brewed with just water twice before making coffee. Coffee is MUCH better than either my percolator or single cup drip. Not bitter and has full coffee flavor. Super easy to use . Does not reduce down coffee like burner style carafes. At nearly $200 a bit pricey but worth it. Very durable.

Great coffee and easy to use
I liked this unit so much I bought a second unit for our vacation condo. Thermal carafe units are usually expensive and this is no exception. It was a replacement for a Krug Costco unit which I cannot find anywhere now and a Cuisinart unit which was cheaper but very cheaply built. I liked its ease of use (really only an on/off switch, no complicated electronics), its sturdy construction, its attractive design, the very hot water and efficient heater, the speed that it makes coffee, and the clear container for water which makes it easy to control the quantity made. Contrary to some reviews, I found it easy to pour and empty. The design of the carafe top and the way it screws into the base (the pourer is in the top, not in the base( makes for a tight seal and thus the coffee stay hot and fresh for hours. I like this unit and am surprised that I have never seen it in a bricks and mortar store. Our units are two years old now and going strong. Worth every penny,

This makes a great cup of coffee
We have been using a K-cup type coffee maker and thought it would be nice to get one that uses coffee in a basket to drip into a pot. The pot is a vacuum sealed carafe and the basket sits very neatly on top of the carafe The reservoir is clear and easy to read the cup measurements for filling with water. We have tried several different types of coffee and have been very pleased with the depth of flavor using the recommended measurement of ground coffee/cup. I think that our taste will cause us to begin using a little less coffee/cup, but this is an option based on individual preference. We order the 8 cup model since we often have visitors that we serve coffee. We were a bit surprised to find that the measurement for a cup is 6oz, not 8oz. It was our fault to not notice that before ordering, but I don't think we would have not ordered it because of that.I am an Americas Test Kitchen fan and they recommended this coffee maker a while back, but withdrew their recommendation recently. They said that there was something going on with the company, but that seems to have been resolved. I would say that I found their reason to recommend was "right on". The water percolating from the reservoir onto the coffee is kept at the correct temperature to extract the best of the coffee. The switch to turn it on/off is the only thing that is operable. No tiimer, etc. Just a simple, well made machine that makes great coffee.
