Amazing sound, clumsy SD navigation
The sound quality of this dodocool MP3 player is awesome for the price, way above what I was expecting. However I have a lot of music so need to use an external SD card and have found the navigation menu a bit clumsy, the only way to find the music I want is via the explorer menu (basically a file explorer). There is a playlist menu which is supposed to sort your music into categories (i.e. genre, album, artist e.t.c) but I have found this just doesn't work, I just get a pop up message saying "warning no music file". Not a major issue just inconvenient, I haven't loaded any files onto the internal memory yet so maybe this function only works with internal files. Another issue I've come across with navigation happens when backing out during playback, it almost always backs out into a completely different file, meaning if you are listening to an album and want to backup to look at the list of songs in that album you quite often have to backup twice then search for the right file again. As I said this may just be an issue with files stored on external memory I will check and update. Overall though I can live with these slight annoyances especially taking into consideration the sound this thing kicks out at such a low price. The menu's are adequate with shuffle options, auto shutdown and even an equaliser. I would definitely recommend this MP3 player but if you're using an external SD don't expect all plain sailing.

Updated review 9 months in - Avoid - Built in Obsolesence at it's finest
I was very dissapointed with this item. I really wanted to like it but it was impossible. The volume buttons failed on a friends device due to being too lightly soldered on to the circuit board, they lasted about 6 months. On my own device the headphone jack failed after just 9 months of of delicate use. Similarly, it was just barely soldered on there and waiting to fail. This is built in obsolesence and should not be encouraged. We should not be supporting companies that are building their devices to these awful standards. I suspect this company will go the way of it's namesake and soon become extinct. It won't be too soon.***this was my original review around October 2018***I have always wanted to like this player since I first ordered it in Oct 2017. Sadly the seller/ distributor/ manufacturer qc combo made that very difficult at that time (the reason is outlined at the end of this review). Now in Oct 2018 I can finally say I have a working device and I really like it!The device I now have works and it's a pleasure. The sound is superb (I am not an audiophile). It's functions are basic, they take a bit of getting used to but in all are perfectly workable. It takes a micro sd card which is where I have my audio stored. The battery life is outstanding, certainly around the claimed playtime of 30 hours (the battery gauge is simply 3 blocks so it's rather tricky to read). You can listen to the device while charging from a usb charger (not while charging USB from a computer). The display is quite small and I would like an option to enlarge the font. I haven't found one so far.The feel of the device is nice. 13mm thick, 53mm wide and 95mm high. It feels just right, a bit of weight but not too heavy. The silicone scroll wheel is a tad jumpy, I quickly got used to it. It's a little bit sticky feeling (which is nice for grip) and dust sticks to it.Responses are relatively fast until you go to play a tune. At that point, there is a signicicant delay (7 or 8 seconds), while the device finds and loads the tune in question from the sd card or onboard memory. Personally I am alright with that. The 'instructions' are not really instructions. You get a list of what the buttons are called and you are left to work it out yourself. I have enjoyed that process of seeing what can be done in terms of lock buttons and other little settings within the device. I found it pretty intuitive all round. When you add tunes to the sd card they will be displayed in the order you added them which is unfortunate. I found a fix for that which sorts the tunes into alphabetical order and it can be found online. It is a utility called mp3DirSorter. It's free and works great. The tracks on the micro sd card and the onboard memory are not integrated which could be annoying to some. I have chosen to ignore the onboard memory (except for microphone recordings) and just use the sd card. I am using it as though it were a hard drive and not using playlists and so on.I find the buit in microphone to be pretty decent. Managing the microphone recordings has been hit and miss for me. Something glitchy in the interface or else I am missing something. There is also an FM radio which uses your headphone cable as the arial. It works fine, nothing too amazing but pretty clear in my opinion. All in all this is a nice and quirky little device that will appeal to some. It certainly does to me. It's offered at a very low cost in my opinion for what it delivers. There is no bluetooth connectivity.** So why did I hate it so much last year?**The issue I had initially was that the device simply did not arrive. I got a message from the seller about a month after ordering informing me that it had been 'lost in transit'. I was informed that they were now out of stock and would ship in a few weeks taking a further month after that to finally get here. I asked for a refund at that time.I re-ordered a few weeks later and about six weeks after that a device finally arrived. Annoyingly it could not accept an sd card (presumably due to a fault in the hardware of my specific unit). This was where things got tricky. I tried to return the device to the sellers UK address and it could not be received by the seller. They were not at the address. I was in contact with someone in China trying to arrange the return and it was a gruelling process. I was asked by the seller not to report the issue to Amazon and told all sorts of shady nonsense.I did my best to give the seller the benefit of the doubt but ultimately had no option but to request Amazon to take charge of the situation, which they did, and refunded me.So if you are ordering this device I suggest you make sure you get this 'fulfilled by Amazon' as opposed to directly from the seller in China. Check the sd card slot and make sure it works when you recieve it. Avoid having it shipped from China, it was a two to three month dissapointment for me when I did.

Well worth waiting for!
First, a few things you should know about the Dodocool mp3 player. The item is shipped to order from China. If you think you are going to get one next day Prime delivery think again. Mine took 5 weeks to deliver because Amazon Logistics lost the first one. Normal deliveries should take less time. The item is shipped without headphones. Given that the quality of supplied headphones is usually pretty dire this means less rubbish in my bin - a good thing! The player has 8GB of internal storage so most people would wish to extend this with an internal SD card. Its worth buying a quality fast card. Most of my tracks were ripped from CDs using Windows Media Player as WMA files. Disappointingly the player does not recognise or display any of the CD artwork. When playing a track the central text fields are also all blank. If the artwork is imbedded in the wma files then the CD cover is displayed. This is clearly a tagging issue. If you are ripping a load of CDs with this player in mind its probably worth experimenting to see which software gives the best results. The player responds quite quickly to commands until you get to playing an album. From pressing the central black click button mine takes about seven seconds before the music plays. Advancing to the next track takes about 3 seconds.I guess the delays are due in part to how you rip your tracks (bigger files take longer to load) and how many tracks you have on the player. My player is loaded with about 60GB of tracks on a 128GB card. What does the player sound like? For the price amazing and far better than you have any right to expect given the price. In summary, the Dodocool mp3 player is a really good no frills mp3 player. The second you connect some headphones and listen to some music you immediately forget about any shortcomings it might have. At the reduced prices it is currently being offered at it is an absolute bargain!
