A very good machine, well worth the money.
I found this machine quite easy to use even though I'm not that tech savvy. I would advise going through youtube for tutorials beforehand, they're very helpful. Once you check these out, saving your photos, negs and slides to digital is a doddle. Bear in mind if you want uncompressed images, they will be a lot bigger in file size, depends how much space you are happy to take up on your computer memory. Accurate colours and clarity, colour restoration is good. The ICE option does clean up scratches and dust but I found does render certain images softer, edges aren't as sharp, depends on your choice. Images are as they were taken originally, don't expect magical improvement. It does what is says on the tin. Delivery was very good, all the various accessories were present, set up took a couple of minutes, startup in seconds. Documents to pdf was also very good, naturally faster than images, equally as accurate and clear. Each page is 1 pdf file, you can get a free program for joining files together, quite easy. All in all, a very good machine that does everything you need, just do your research first on how to use your settings and all your old memories will preserved forever. Highly recommended.

Best thing I have bought in years
This is a great machine. I had scanned virtually all my photos from my album and when I had nearly finished I got the idea to seek out my negatives. I had thousands. I researched the market and this had by far the best reviews. I can now add my 5* review. It produces amazingly professional digitised photos from the negatives and almost completely takes out the scratches on the negs. The DIGITAL ICE Technology that does this is incredible. I have played around with all the settings and started on fully auto but then graduated to the Home setting and played about with different settings within that and have found an ideal combination that produces great results every time. It is great to see old photos in glorious colour as they were years before. It can also do B&W and my only hint there is untick the DIGITAL ICE Technology as it interferes with the B&W quality. My only tiny minor beef is that the software is a little temperamental and will stop for no reason and then sometimes state it is NOT RESPONDING when it clearly is. Finally do NOT EVER interrupt it if you feel you have a mistaken setting. It does not like this at all! You will probably have to restart your computer to get out of the spiral. In this situation walk away let it do it's thing. Come back and reset and start again. Believe me this saves time. To me you just have to have patience and get to know the little quirks through trial and error. Once you have the correct setting you will be banging out .jpgs or .pdfs like there is no tomorrow! 2 negative strips are scanned at a time which is approx. 8 photos and that can take up to 15 minutes. It also does slides very well. Overall an amazing piece of equipment for the home.

Excellent
I have just bought one of these to replace my old Perfection 3200. The 3200 was a really good scanner but when I upgraded to Win7 64bit the Epson scanning software was not compatible. Epson provided a driver but could not offer an upgraded software package. So for me, the scanner was rendered useless. I tried various third party scanning software such as Vu-Scan and Laser Soft but there really is no substitute for the proper stuff. I found that even simple copying was a labourious task with poor results. I really had no option other than to replace the 3200. The 3200 had given me excellent service so I wanted a scanner that gave at least as good a performance. Trawling through reviews I zoomed in on the V600 and the many positive comments settled it and I decided to buy one. I am absolutely delighted with my purchase. I thought the 3200 would be hard to beat but this scanner is light years ahead. I scan lots of photographs and negatives of classic cars and had up until now been happy with the results but wow, every little gleam, every piece of chrome and shiney bodywork simply leaps off the screen in a way that I didn't think possible from a scanner in this price range. I am so impressed that I am actually re-archiving many photographs, negatives and slides that I had previously thought to be of a very good standard. Scanning slides and negatives was always a bit of a trial. It was really difficult to eradicate dust and spots. Epson's own dust removal tool was pretty lame and often removed fine details in addition to dust. So, I would spend literally hours cleaning images up with Photoshop and this would take the pleasure out of the whole exercise. I had read many articles on Digital Ice and despite general praise for it, I was quite cynical. Boy did I get a suprise. It actually works and the amount of time spent cloning on Photoshop has drastically reduced. I keep it set to the default, 'medium' setting and this produces excellent results. It should be mentioned at this stage that Digital Ice will not work with Kodachrome slides. This is something, as I understand it, to do with the yellow dyes in this type of film. This is a pity as I have many Kodachrome slides. Now you will note that I have only given four stars rather than five. This is due to the fact that the scanner is made of some very, VERY cheap looking and feeling plastic and I really do wonder how robust over time it will be. The 3200 was built like a bus and weighed a ton but you got a feeling of solidity and reliablity with it that simply is lacking in the V600. The flims carriers too are of poor construction in comparison to the 3200. I seriously doubt that they will endure long, daily scanning sessions. Shame on Epson for this and in my view they have tarnished an otherwise great product. Clearly there have been some major cost reductions. They should realise that scanners at this end of the market get much more use than the cheaper ones and quality of build does count. If you buy one, and I hope you do, exercise real caution when using it or you could find yourself with a big, expensive broken toy. UPDATE: All of a sudden, the adjustments for correction, descreen and ICE were greyed out and I cannot fix slides of negatives. Until now this machine has been wonderful with superb results.

Easy to use scanner with useful range of software
I've been using this scanner for four years now, scanning documents, photos, maps, diagrams, slides and film, both negative and positive and have found it very straightforward to use. It comes with a range of useful software. The basic scanning application provides a very good choice of adjustments that can be made before scanning, allowing quite fine control of the final output and its worth taking the time here before scanning rather than just relying on editor software to tweak an image after scanning. The various attachments for scanning transparencies like slides and film are fiddly to use but do work and allow for good results. I would have preferred to see an attachment which would allow you to scan more than just three slides at a time but that's not a great problem. I've also scanned three dimensional objects which can produce interesting results. Its reasonably quiet in operation and quick unless you are scanning at very high resolutions. The preview image is ok but the magnification button to check work in detail before scanning is rather poor, giving only a small view of a limited area which means moving the mouse about to check different bits of the image but again, you get used to it and its not really a big problem. I find that producing several scans at different settings is the best way to decide on which settings work best for any particular photo. On the whole, a very good purchase.

A Good Buy
I have only recently purchased the Perfection V600 to replace my previous Epson Perfection 1660 Scanner which has given me excellent service for many years and it is still working well , but Windows 7 didn’t seem to like it, hence the new one. Setting-up the V600 was straightforward and I was pleased that it installed and was working very quickly. I have used Epson scanners before, so I was familiar with the controls and didn't need to use the manual too much except to confirm my own thoughts on the controls. Although it is still early days I have scanned both 35mm negatives and transparencies and also 6cm format negatives with great success. The ‘flatbed’ also scans well and produces good quality photocopies. I considered the overall quality of the unit to be excellent and also the whole package to be good value for the price. However I have not been able to Import images by starting from Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 as the Import menu does not show the V600 Scanner. and the user guide options differ from what appears under the Photoshop menu

Great scans not so great to use with editing software
After realising when I changed over to Windows 7 from XP I could no longer use my old 2400 scanner to its full capabilities, I purchased the new Epsom perfection V600 photo. This version is far more versatile for negative scanning as it will take all the formats and if the format it doesn’t fit in the frame you can still lay it as a whole negative, scanner itself does a great job and using the ice technology can turn many colour faded pictures to colour correct the image to its original, or even better. Slide scanning also very good, along with Prints giving good results However using the thumbnail option, scanner is not always accurate to the edges and often will cut off the end of the image, The big downside with this scanner has to be its versatility to be used within photo shop, this has always suited me in earlier versions because once you have scanned images you can then do any alterations straightaway before saving them,,but if you have photo shop CS 5 or later this has become now much more difficult, having to download drivers, and downloading 32-bit photo shop programme ect,ect which will then import scanners, and in the case of CS6 then it is impossible to scan into photo shop directly . Adobe argue that the twain drivers have caused conflicts within CS5 & 6 however I believe that both Epsom and Adobe should build bridges and work together to come to some solution in their software to make it easier for photographers to scan straight into the editing programmes instead of just suggesting using a third party to scan and save, which is just creating a lot more hassle to do and more time if you have a lot of images to scan. Had that issue been solved then the scanner would have got top marks.

It is flawless
I have had this scanner for at least six years and it is flawless. Installation is easy too. Good troubleshooting at Epson is available if your scanner doesn't register on your PC after switching devices. This can be solved very easily by restasrting the scanners settings.
