If you need coffee keeping hotter for longer, then look no further
I, like many others, was annoyed to find that we have adopted this EU rule where hot plates are no longer allowed to be on for more than something ridiculous like 20 minutes. As someone who does not have to have 16 cups of coffee in the morning, I needed some way to keep my coffee warm until I got around to wanting my second cup without having to make an individual cup every time. I hunted high & low to see if anyone still had a coffee maker with a hot plate that lasted longer than the time it took me to drink my first cup, but alas, the EU had yet again ruined something else for us it seems - hot coffee. Someone suggested I look for a coffee maker with a thermos jug, which I had seen before but hadn't thought much about - until I then discovered the EU rule. I looked at a few brands & whilst I initially settled on a different one, the reviews were concerning as they revealed that a lot of these thermos jugs were exploding. That was not good. I even considered a normal glass one, but even they had reviews claiming the jugs were breaking, exploding or handles falling off - jeez, how hard is it to get a decent coffee maker these days? Then I found this coffee machine & whilst it was more than I initially set out to pay, the reviews all seemed to be fairly positive & there was no glass inside the jug. No reports of explosions, handles falling off, or any other weird occurrences - which is what settled it for me. As someone who doesn't need to be able to stand my spoon in my coffee, I was quite content just finding something that not only made me drinkable coffee but also filtered out the bits. This one apparently has some sort of strength setting but to be honest I don't have strong coffee anyway so I can't comment on that. I previously used a coffee press but found that no matter how careful I was, there was always some grinds that made it through to the cup. This, however, solved that problem. Happy days. Now I can take the filter paper out & bin it without having to keep scrapping grinds into the bin or down the toilet etc & then having to rinse the press out & dismantle the filter to get the bits out. Oh, what a joy that was to be rid of that chore every day. The cup measurements on the water reservoir are perhaps not aimed at mugs. I think this is for those who like super strong, espresso cups. I am not one of them. My mug holds 1/2 pint, so I simply top up however much I envisage drinking that day & away it goes. Other people have been asking about the "auto-off" since it has no hot plate. To clarify, the auto-off means after it's emptied the water reservoir, it will detect it's empty & then shut off after a few minutes. If it emptied all the water and you added more water, before it switched itself off, it would brew that water also. It has nothing to do with a hot plate since it doesn't have one. It simply means it shuts itself off a few minutes after its emptied the water, so as not to sit there trying to brew when empty & wasting electric & risking burning out. The water reservoir is horseshoe-shaped meaning you can fill it from either side of the machine. Handy as you can then put it next to other appliances & still fill it. It also has a timer, so, I can set it up before bed, set my timer and then my coffee is ready to go when I am. And if I forget, then it's no big deal since it only takes about 6 minutes to brew anyway. That is apparently just enough time to stare into the abyss and contemplate what new level of hell I will face at work today, whilst I await my caffeine fix to get me through it. Yay. One person commented about their coffee going mouldy in their machine - I can only assume that if you actually remove your used coffee & replace it with a fresh one, every time you use it then you won't ever experience this issue. I can't honestly see how it can make your coffee go mouldy since you shouldn't leave it in there for any length of time anyway. And when it's not in use, I crack the coffee filter holder open slightly to let it air & dry so assuming you aren't trying to reuse your coffee & filer multiple days on the trot then I can't see as this will ever be a problem as it's easy to clean & dry. I've been using mine daily now for a week & am really pleased with it. It's so easy to clean, easy to fill, easy to set up, keeps the grind-free coffee hot for hours without the risk of burning the house down, exploding jugs or running up the electric bill. What more could I ask for.

Works with no fuss.
Very easy to use. You do need to set the time on the clock, but it's very simple to do - one button for the hours and another for the minutes and off you go. As I love strong coffee I have it set on maximum strength, and it makes a lovely cup of coffee. My friend commented that the coffee tastes smoother than with the old machine (which was quite venerable!). The coffee is at the perfect temperature, nice and hot without tasting scalded or bitter, and the thermal jug keeps it at the right temperature - I haven't yet had cold coffee when I leave it in the jug. I find the timer easy to set - simply press and hold the timer button and use the hour and minute buttons to set the start time. Release the timer button, then press it briefly to turn on the timer and it's done. It remembers the time you've set - useful if you regularly want your coffee at the same time. I have a long habit of leaving the filter holder and reservoir open to dry, and it works just as well with this machine. As there is no hot plate the coffee never tastes stewed. I find that you need to turn the jug completely upside down to get the last of the coffee out, but you soon get used to it. The automatic shut off is great, because the thermal jug keeps the coffee hot there's no need to leave the power on for ages. Some people have mentioned about cleaning the jug, as it's not recommended to put it in the dishwasher. I've found that a couple of hours soaking with dishwasher powder does the trick very well and the jug comes up nice and clean. Overall, a great improvement and I'm very pleased with it, plus it looks very slick!

Excellent, the best filter maker I have ever had.
Was disappointing noted the nanny state had taken away hot plates that stay on... then I found this with a thermal jug and a timer and a strength dial. So how does it perform. The jug is brilliant, no drips, no leakage, the lid pops up when you pour and drops neatly back down, again with no leaks and it pours lovely. The coffee stays warm for ages, I would say a good three hours and it is still very drinkable. The strength dial is brilliant, I like strong coffee and usually find filter makers a bit thin on strength, this one has a dial which slows down the drip over the coffee and therefore the strength increases. A full jug on max strength takes about 8 minutes to filter. The timer was a bonus. Way to set and then just leave if you want the same time ever day for a wake up brew. You set the time and press the timer button and that’s it If I was going to quibble then I would say a dimmer for the clock would be nice, it seems manufacturers think consumers want bright blue light everywhere. The clock is illuminated constantly with a blue background, it’s not overly bright and if it’s in the kitchen it won’t keep you awake but it would be a nice option to be able to switch the backlight off or down. In the UK and I would expect a lot of other places we drink mugs not cups. The scale on the water tank is in cups, small and large with a maximum of 12 small cups. A small cup is 60ml, a big cup is 125ml.. for us mug drinkers its 250 to 300ml required, so expect 4 to 6 mugs out of the tank . The tank is an average size for these machines. Quibbles our of the way, I would recommend this machine, mine has been used almost every day since it arrived. Timer switched on and wake up to the smell of fresh coffee.... just need a bacon sandwich making machine on a timer and my world would be complete

Bien.

I was afraid that the carrafee will not keep temperature for long time, fortunately it does , 4-6 hours you can have warm coffee, excellent taste doesn't change as hot plate , very effective, nice machine, highly recommended

Lekkere koffie, prima bedieningsgemak.
