This mouse is pretty much ideal (for a right-hander, at least).The forward and back buttons on the side are useful for everyday browsing, without ever getting in the way of other tasks - in fact I often forget they're there. There's very little danger of me pressing them by mistake - and the contours are easily distinguishable by touch alone. The scrollwheel works just fine, although the scroll-mode button above it has been accidentally clicked once or twice; but this is really a minor issue. I use it primarily on a wooden surface which has seen a fair bit of use, so isn't necessarily the smoothest area to work on, but the mouse glides very nicely, for the time being anyway.My only gripe would be the left and right "click" sounds - the action itself is fine, but I can't help but feel it's just a little louder than it needs to be. Maybe I've been spoiled by other, quieter devices, or maybe I'm just being overly critical, but it is something I've noticed.All in all, I'm more than pleased with it. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic while it lasted *by C***S on 29 November 2013* I've typically stuck to Logitech because they seem to construct their products from some hellspawn combination of kevlar-lined concrete, coated in titanium. I previously had a Logitech budget optical mouse that survived some considerable abuse being thrown in the bottom of a rucksack and finally outlived it's longevity after 5 years when a bottle of water split in my bag. I purchased the M500 as an upgrade and initially appreciated the ergonomic design and decent weight of it; the mouse feels substantial and well-built whilst being comfortable enough to use for extended periods without any real fatigue. So far so good.Unfortunately the buttons began to work intermittently until they finally cut out altogether after about a month. Doing a little tinkering, I discovered the microswitches themselves had failed and promptly replaced them; the mouse functioned smoothly once again. After another month the issue recurred and doing some testing, I found that this time the cable was at fault.It's a shame because this is a very comfortable mouse with exceptional movement definition that was a marvel to use with work, internet usage and gaming. Unfortunately it's not nearly as robust as a mouse 1/3 of the price and I'm relatively certain I'll revert back to the budget option. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good multi buttoned product. *by J***N on 15 March 2013* Works well with lots of button options to choose from. Particularly like the scroll function, as the wheel can be released to freely spin up or down like the clappers - no time messing about with top/bottum of pages!
