It Brings Organized Teaching To A Whole New Level
I have many tactics instructionals and puzzle books. Boy did I wish I had this book much earlier in my studies. This book is excellently organized and follows a logical approach to increasing difficulty. I also have the Giannatos book and 1001 Chess Exercises for Beginners. This book is INDISPENSABLE. It is probably in the same pantheon as "Predator at the Chess Board"What makes this book stand out is that it guides the reader/ solver what to look for while solving the puzzles. Basically, it equips the solver with1. A Thought Process2. Key Factors/ Elements to look for in a tactical position3. Patterns of frequently occurring tacticsIf someone were to pick up a puzzle book for beginners, or to train using online tactics servers, they would have to grope in the dark with 1 and 2.Many books only focus on one or two of the above. However, this book combines all 3 so that the person is definitely stronger upon finishing it.The author even thoughtfully provided bolded text for easy review and flashcards at the end of each chapter to summarize main points.I didn't know this much organization and instructional value could be packed into a tactics book for beginners. Unlike 1001 Chess Exercises for Beginners which is more advanced, this book can be picked up by any level player. It will teach 800 rated players and even 1400 rated players. I will definitely consider buying subsequent books published by this author. Amazing.

Great book!
I am two-thirds into the book, and I love how the author decided to structure the content. Instead of the usual structure of tactics books, he organized the puzzles based on piece combinations. I think this is a much more useful way of thinking because during a game, you don't know what tactic may be available beforehand. I have not tried the defense material yet, but this is also a welcomed addition, since most tactics books focus only on the offensive side of the game.

Easy to be confused by things initially. But once you get past that, all is good.
1) It is easy to gloss over the key at the outset and not realise the square to the bottom left of each chess board represent who's turn it is to go.2) When I started reading, like most people you tend to read left to right. There were diagrams interspersed in a two column format in the preamble to the quiz sections in each chapter. You have to read it left column, then continue on the right column before turning the page. This was counterintuitive.
