Can I just use this straight out of the tube with a paint brush on fabric?

You are going to want to use a brayer (a special roller for ink) if you want an even application of this ink. It is very think.

What is the difference between the "Opaque White" and "White" inks, are they intended to be used for different purposes?

The opaque white is thicker/ less translucent (hence the name) it does a better job of printing solid white over darker fabrics.

Can you mix colors successfully?

Yes! Pallet knife. It’s been a long time since I have done this, and I don’t remember what to thin it with just a tad IF necessary—but I did get a lovely lavender with violet and white a few years back.😊
