What is not to like?
I researched a lot of products, and although this one looked really good, I couldn't help but wonder why the TRV heads were £40 rather than others which were around £60. I thought they may be inferior. I need not worry. They are brilliant. I've worked in IT for 30 years, so setup was a doddle. Even installation was one screw and just swap my old timer for the Wiser hub. It fitted on the old backplate so no wiring required. I just turned my old thermostat to max so it just kept the thermostat permanently switched on, giving control to the new Wiser kit. Once installed, I set up the schedules for each room individually. On an old system, you set all radiators to switch off at a certain temperature, but if you have all radiators set to 20 degrees, for example, then if the temperature is 18 degrees, then obviously all radiators will switch on. With the Wiser Smart Heating system, you then go one step further by saying (for example). I want the bedroom and bathroom to come on between 6 and 8.30 at 20 degrees with all other radiators OFF. I want the office radiator to come on at 8am at 21 degrees, and the bedroom and bathroom to go off at 8.30. I want the office then to turn off at 5pm, but I want the lounge and hallway to come on at 4pm till 11pm. And I want the bedroom to come back on a 9pm. Stuff like that. It basically means that I am running 1 or 2 radiators all day (or until they reach the required temperature), whereas before I would have been running 10 all day. I can only assume that with the horrendous price increases in the UK for gas, this has made a huge difference. We have a reasonable sized 4 bedroom detached house, and after April, our monthly gas and electricity bill will rise from £100 per month to £130 per month. This is the lowest of anyone we know. We are on standard tariff as our supplier went bust, so we had to change supplier recently to a new one, and they had no fixed price deals going, so we ended up on standard which is one of the highest, and we have smart meters, so they know exactly how much we use. People we know in smaller houses than us are paying far more than us (in some cases more than double). I can only assume it is the Wiser system making the difference. But it makes sense, as having 2 radiators on instead of 10 is a big difference. The only negative. The app needs some more thought and some work. It's great at setting basic schedules, but they need to listen to customers more. I think it must have been designed by a developer. When I first had it, I gave them some feedback saying it is really good, but you should be able to have overrides to the regular schedule for specific dates (like on Microsoft calendars). E.g Aunt Ethel is coming to stay next Thursday for 2 nights, so during that period keep the spare room at 21 degrees. The only way I can see is to wait until the day of arrival and then amend the regular schedule to suit or set it a constant temperature and tell it to ignore the schedule. But with both of these options, you have to remember to undo it afterwards. I heard nothing back. Overall though, this is an exceptional system, far better than I could ever have hoped for, which I believe is saving me a lot of money, and probably paid for itself a long time ago. It just needs (like all apps) ongoing customer engagement and development. I would be happy to perform this role for free as I have been heavily involved in mobile app development and I love this product, and I would love to be able to help others save money with the fuel price crisis in the UK.

Increased comfort. Saving money while keeping a constant temperature.
Upgraded my old setup 2.5 years ago. I was looking for a while to change old TVRs for a smart system in order to be able to maintain a stable temperature in the baby room. Turned to be so good that I later bought 3 more smart radiator thermostats and now have one in living, kitchen and all 3 bedrooms. Good stuff: 1. Easy setup. The Smart TRVs themselves also super easy - screw on, for those who never changed one before, don't worry, no water leaks involved, you just screw off the old one (valve stays closed) and screw the Drayton one instead. I did mines even with a bare hand. You might want to add a half turn maybe with a corresponding key if you have it, but make sure to add something soft in it to not scratch the metal bezel. 2. Per room temp control. This brings up great flexibility. You can set up individual temperature for each room. This is exactly what I do, a bit higher for living room and kitchen and cooler for bedrooms. - So you have an option to maintain 24/7 same constant, comfortable to you temperature in any room, without overheating or overcooling it. - Otherwise you can set up a convenient schedule instead, to have particular temperature at certain time, which is also convenient - for example waking up in a warmer house and then switching it of while you're at work, but heating the house back while you're on the way home so that you get back in a cosy place. All this functionality is truly amazing and convenient, and really improves comfort. 3. Great value for money. If you're going to check other brands and try to get/build a similar kit (tado, nest, bosch, etc) - you will pay a lot more. Also, for example with google nest you don't have it's native TRVs so you get a smart thermostat, but one only, basically for the whole home. Also, money wise I am pretty sure in 2.5 years that I am saving money, as I'm seeing similar bills but after energy prices went up. All this while having constant temperature in every room 24/7 without any worry or plan, or need to heat & wait, etc. Basically set and forget. 4. Simple yet functional. Here to mention both TRVs and the app. Smart TRVs - Two AA batteries in and you're good to go.You have a plastic wheel / physical control with either + or - , which will send you're current temperature 2 degrees up or down. - Physical control lock. A very convenient thing for small kids. Mine were unlocked by default and I could not understand while heating was on several times and overheating a particular room - when I later spotted my little one just playing around with them :) so a simple "lock" from the app sorts this out. - Open window detection - to close the valve if a draft is detected. In fairness precision of this functionality is questionable. At least I did not feel it's reliable. Maybe if the temperature drops really fast, like a open window when outside is much colder - then maybe yes. Otherwise don't rely on it to save you :) APP I do like the app. It does not break any records or win app "grammys" but it's simple enough with decent functionality. - Easy add or reduce temperature to any rooms where you have a smart thermostat - Easy boost to any room, 30 mins, 1,2 or 3 hours + off. - Setting tailored schedules for both temperature and time that can vary during the day. Also, saving this schedules and being able to toggle on/off the usage of the schedule can also be very convenient sometimes. - Eco and comfort mode. With eco the app is trying to maximize efficiency of your system by learning your usage patterns, while in comfort the idea is simple - if you want for example 20 degrees when you wake up, the system checks the inside & outside temperature and makes sure it starts heating in advance so that 20 degrees are achieved when you wake up, and not just the heating starts at that time. - You get informative energy efficiency graphs and how the outside temperature correlates with the amount of time the heating was on - on a certain day - THINGS TO NOTE: 1. TRVs battery life. I've noticed that with constant temperature set 24/7 (no schedules) - the smart radiator thermostats go on and off much more often in order to maintain the set temperature. I don't know if it will reduce life of the thermostat itself, but it defo reduces life of 2 AA batteries :) Checking the app two batteries make it through the winter/cold season here in Ireland - but defo would need a change after that. 2. Connectivity is not perfect. My hub is at ground floor, so the ones at first floor show 2 out of 3 signal and the attic shows 1 out of 3 bars. Same time, maybe slightly delayed but looks like all TRV are receiving the signals/commands from the hub as they switch on/on and do the job to maintain the set temperature. Still, keep in mind that depending on your house size this might be something to keep in mind. I think I've seen some range extenders from Drayton to cover up in case you need it. To wrap up: Overall, the amount of advantages for the price you pay makes it an amazing investment in your home. The comfort and convenience + long term saving you money & paying back for itself. Not many purchases give you this much value really. Not perfect but something that I've extensively tested and can responsibly recommend. Stay warm and cosy friends! Cheers!

Good low cost multi-zone system, seems pretty reliable vs the Nest it replaced
Originally had a 2nd Gen Nest thermostat, but it became problematic and was always losing connectivity to the Heat Link box by the boiler despite being installed practically right below it. Problem was when the thermostat lost connectivity, you had no heating which occured a few times. Also disliked the fact that despite the thermostat being wireless, it needed to be constantly plugged into the mains meaning portability was lacking (wasn't like you could easily carry it from room to room for e.g.). Being that the product cost alot of money and also wasnt that old, was very disappointed. Rather felt as though it was all show and no go. In the end decided to rip and replace for the Wiser Heat system and on the whole couldnt be happier with it. Had some initial niggles with the control box losing connectivity with the WiFi but it transpired it was a WiFi problem (or not enough of it!). Once that was sorted its been pretty rock solid. The system is pretty easy to set up (though the control box really needs professional installation), easy enough to configure and by and large does what it says on the tin. We bought the pack with the single TRV included and used it in our main bedroom. To begin with I was disappointed as it didnt seem to fit the valve properly and subsequently failed to control the rad properly......several months later after trying it again have found that I hadnt installed it correctly and now seems to control the radiator OK. They arent the quietest things (if you are a light sleeper the opening and closing process could wake you) but do the job. Only issue I have encountered is that the TRV set temperature has a few times dropped down from what it was set to (was 18, falling back to 15 degrees) meaning we've woken cold a few times but having disabled Eco mode now seems OK. I will probably eventually install the TRV's in all the bedrooms, but at 40 quid a pop it's not really a cheap exercise (though far cheaper than Honeywell's offering) but it'll be nice to have temperature control in the bedrooms in order to run the house a bit warmer and the rooms cooler for comfortable sleeping in the colder months. Test will be whether a range extender will be required as our house is fairly large....time will tell I suppose. In summary, I imagine the Honeywell system is probably better but at the cost it ought to be. For the money this seems very good value for money as whilst arguably not quite as polished as the likes of the Honeywell offering it offers nice, reliable functionality at a relatively low price. Certainly knocks a single Nest thermostat into the weeds in terms of reliability and overall functionality, from my own experience anyway.

Excellent system
I've had two control systems from the boiler manufacturer, neither were cheap and both failed within two years. Won't mention the manufacturer but they are one of the higher end domestic boiler manufacturer. The boiler is a combi but the wiser system would easily integrate with a heat only boiler system ( one with a hot water cylinder). The system was very easy to install, the thermostatic radiator units simply unscrew and the wiser radiator unit screws straight on. I was replacing my old honeywell Thermostatic radiator controls. The kit comes with and adaptor which will allow the unit to fit most makes of radiator TRV's without the need to drain the system. I found the unit very easy to set up and pair the TRV to the system. The only criticism is the system isn't opentherm compatible so its simply a on/off but the way the system performs is very much like a opentherm system. With standard thermostatic radiator valves these simply shut the water off to the radiator, this doesn't interface with the boiler, only a room thermostat and time lock can turn the boiler on and off. With this system it is possible to turn the boiler on and off when any of the TRVs are calling for heat which is fantastic. For instance if your working from home and only want to heat say the living room and kitchen this system will allow these rooms to be controlled simply and efficiently without trying to heat the whole house, as long as each radiator has a wiser unit fitted. Instead of heating the whole house you can now control each room however and whenever you wish. We have noticed a drop in the gas bill which is really why this system was fitted an long with reducing the CO2 footprint. The house is small but WiFi is always an issue, ro the point the computer upstairs has trouble with WiFi so its hard wired, to date I've not had any issues with connectivity at all, this isn't to say if you have a larger property or a poorly placed router a range extender maybe needed. We have had this system. I have had to change the batteries in one or two units in that time, to be fair these are the ones that come with the unit so I don't expect them to be the best, changing the batteries and reconnecting the TRV back to the system only takes a few minutes and probably will take less time now I know the procedure to rediscover the TRV. Lots of data can be accessed in the app, so the tech minded gadget lover can see what the system has been upto. Initial cost is a bit high but compared to the benefits this system provides is comparable to fitting a control system to a existing system, without the need to run cables to time clocks, room thermostats etc. All in all I can't recommend this system highly enough.

They Work Better Than I Expected
I have just had Gas central heating installed and I was looking to make the Gas Central heating smart. It took weeks of looking into it and many different products...In the end I went with Drayton Wiser because of the reviews and the supposed flawless ability to control every radiator individually. Well I am pleased to say i am glad I went with this product.. Friends of mine have different systems and they do not have the control that i have...The plumber fitting the central heating system insisting this system will not pull water from the boiler directly it will have to go to the main thermostat first...I said to him we will agree to disagree...The next day he told me that his fellow tradesmaen had stated the main thermostat will control the radiators..I again said we will agree to disagree...Well it was me that was correct and left the gas engineer Gob smacked. I have eight radiators and the radiator in the hall is the open all the time radiator as a fail safe so if you are pulling water to any other radiator you will get this radiator on as well so fit that one without any smart TRV into the hallway as this is usually the coldest room and the wall thermostat will control that one only....The other seven radiators all have Drayton Smart TRV's and I have total control....I give you an example...If i want just the kitchen to heat up I can...The smart phone app is brilliant showing a list of all my rooms with the radiators...lets say i changed the temperature for the kitchen radiator from say 18C to 24C and the app will show a flame telling you the radiator is powering up and calling water and around ten to thirty seconds you hear the smart TRV on the selected radiator make a little noise as it opens the valve then the boiler fires up and about ten seconds later the radiator starts to get hot.All the other smart controlled radiators are still off because they are not requiring heat. You can then set the scheduling for any time for each radiator to come on and off and at what temperature....complete control...Example the kitchen may be set to 21C and the Lounge at 23C while the bedrooms are off...that is until later if you so wish... This is total control and I cannot believe how good it is. I have the room where my cats are on most of the time but the rest of the system is just set to frost protection until i need them on and they fire up on the time I have requested....Lets say the scheduling is due in an hour but its cold instead of changing the scheduling just set a thirty minute one hour or three hour boost to whatever radiator you want. Its total control and it is already saving me money....Two other settings of interest...a COMFORT setting brings whichever radiator you want on earlier than the scheduled time so the comfort temperature is there when you want it...I don't use this because I think it would use more gas..I do use however the ECO mode, well this setting monitors the weather outside and how quickly your house heats up and cools down and assists in saving you money......This is an excellent product easy to install and operate, eventually your schedule will run the house without you having to do anything.....My cats love it...Highly recommended

Works Well and Easy to Install
Had been considering a smart set up for a while and looked at Nest / Hive etc - saw this and thought it was reasonably priced so bought the Start up kit with 2 TRVs. Very easy to install, removed old programmer with 2 screws and replaced it with Wiser hub (2 minutes). Downloaded app and created account and replaced 2 TRVs and put the room stat on the wall. Works so effectively, I went on to order more TRVs and have control of the every room in a busy house with lots of different demands for each room at different times. So now I can heat each room as and when needed without heating the whole house. Away mode does what it's meant to when we're away on our travels. Never had any issues with hub disconnecting or rooms disappearing off the app like some reviewers. Never had any issues with connectivity or needing a range extender - and the house is over 3 floors. Not had to speak to customer support as everything was clear in the instructions and works. Have had the system for a couple of months without any issues at all. Just make sure 'pin valves' in the body of the TRV are not seized so that they can operate smoothly. The app interface is a little 'clunky' could do with a design refresh to help make scheduling a little easier and user friendly, but a small niggle in the scheme of things. Would highly recommend the product, the heat reports it provides via the app are interesting, and I can state that my bills are reduced as a result of installation, but it is the convenience of it that makes it worth having rather than the savings - at least for our house anyway - my wife has a quick natter with Alexa and the room she wants heating gets toasty, I use the app - each to their own but we like it.

Excellent, quiet and simple - great price
Update 2021-01-18 - I've had this system for some years and I'm still satisfied. Otherwise, the app has been improving over the last year or so and has a few more features which are quite nice. There ARE some issues with individual radiators and it is worth doing some annual maintenance on the valves - they have a "nipple" that controls the valve (you can see this when you remove the TRV top) - use some silicon lubrication on this and work it up and down a few times at the end of the summer when the heating is coming back on. I've also had it recommended to replace the valves with Drayton ones if you have to drain your system at any point. Not because they work better with the Drayton Wiser system but because they are the best valves and a lot more reliable long term. The other occasional issue is that the controller sometimes crashes and it can take some time to restart. I tend to think that it may be because I'm also polling the controller every 60s from a home automation system. Either way, it is only a minor inconvenience given that this system is so much cheaper than its main competitor, the Honeywell EvoHome. ---- Excellent. Provides good control, simple to use and very quiet. The Wiser TRV's are around 1/2 the price of competitors - partly because they have no screen on them. No screen is good! These are really simple to use and easily pass the family test. Unlike some TRV's, these are quiet enough not to disturb any but the lightest sleepers.

Good product ruined by lack of customer service
I have a dual hub room thermostat and 5 radiator valves this was installed 3 months ago and up until now has been controlling my heating and water very well unfortunately one of the valve heads has failed customer service has been very poor and essentially refuses to replace the product although they accept after testing that it is at fault their only suggestion is to return to the seller for replacement however the amazon return window has closed and their customer service refers me back to drayton so I am stuck with a non-functional unit this is very disappointing and a great shame that an otherwise good product is ruined by very poor after sales care and especially so as they do not challenge that the product is faulty but still will not act after a multitude of emails 29 2 20 update to review drayton have offered me a product (a range extender socket) which I do not want or need as compensation for my trouble as a goodwill gesture (I was given a promise of return which was rescinded and incorrect instructions re amazon returns) but still wont replace my faulty radiator valve head both sell on amazon for 35 pounds perhaps someone with a modicum of sense will offer me a radiator valve head instead
