Goodbye to nasal sprays
This is one amazing product. I have suffered with rhinitis for several years and have been using a steroid nasal spray on and off for 18 months. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, I found that if I didn't use the spray my nasal passages would just become congested, but prolonged use obliterated my sense of smell, made my nose bleed and, after a dose of antibiotics for a sinus infection, gave me oral thrush. Desperate for something that would relieve the congestion without the side effects of prolonged steroid medication, I decided to try the Neti Pot. Within a few days, I could breathe through my nose, my sense of smell returned, the nasal bleeding stopped and I didn't miss the burning bitter taste of steroids at the back of my throat. I used it once a day for about two weeks and now find that I can get away with using it every 2-3 days without any real return of symptoms. I was afraid I would not like the sensation of pouring fluid up my nose, and nervous about infection, but it is quite easy to use and not as bad as you imagine. I find half a sachet of saline per nostril is enough. it can be tricky at first trying to resist the urge to swallow when you feel water up your nose but it is not an unpleasant experience. It goes wrong occasionally: sometimes it trickles down the throat, and sometimes it runs down your face, but minor issues. If you swallow a bit, it's only salt water; it just disrupts the flow a bit! The biggest problem I have had is that I live in an extremely hard water area. Boiled tap water develops a particulate scum on it which I was not happy about putting up my nose. Sterile water or saline was going to be too expensive to use regularly, but I eventually found that supermarket brand value mineral water does the job - sterilised, of course, and at 17p for 2 litres lasts a few days and is cost effective. It takes a little bit of forward planning but I have a routine now. I know how much water I need, boil it for 4 mins in a pan, rinse the pot with the hot water, leave the rest to cool for 30 mins, dissolve the saline and do the nasal rinse, and finally rinse the pot with the remaining boiled water. Anyone fed up with endless steroid use would be well advised to give this a try. I cannot rate it highly enough.

Fantastic product
Hi – I don’t normally do product reviews, but I was so impressed with this product that I thought I would share my experiences. My problem was essentially a permanently blocked left nostril/sinus. Nose would drip, I would struggle to sleep and no amount of blowing my nose would clear it and it was becoming quite debilitating. Had tried several remedies (menthol crystals, Beconaise etc) but no improvement. A course of antibiotics gave me a period of 3 to 4 weeks of relief before it returned. My GP had suggested the Neti pot, but I hadn’t really given it serious consideration. I had decided to revisit my GP to argue for a referral to a specialist, but realised that the first question that they would ask would be had I tried the Neti Pot. I realised that I wouldn’t be going to see any specialist without giving it a try. I made the purchase from Amazon, but hand on heart didn’t think it would make any difference. It arrived and after just two days I was clear. I was amazed, as were family and work colleagues. I was now cured and stopped the douching! Within 4 days the problem was back. I restarted daily douching and within two days was again clear. I have continued with the douching, now every other day, and remain clear of my problem. I can’t recommend it enough and if you have this type of problem just give it a trial. Hopefully you will experience the results that I have. A couple of tips, 1) I just use ½ of the sachet in the pot and find that it is enough. 2) Stick with it. To start with it’s quite difficult to get you head at the right angle for the solution to flow. Eventually you do master the technique though. 3) Be patient. I find that it takes a minute or so for the flow to come out through the other nostril. 4) Make sure that your nostrils are clear before douching. I found that a shower (or a jog) helped clear my nose and made the douching more effective. After a couple of days the nose is clear and you can dispense with the shower/jog! 5) Have good hygiene. Use boiled water for the solution, but also pour boiling water into pot before use and over the spout. Repeat after you have used it. 6) I now have it down to such a fine art that I can do it during the commercial breaks on TV, so it isn’t a massive imposition on your time. Good luck

Portable and practical
Took me a little while to get the hand of pouring water up one nostril and watching it dribble down the other, but now it's a cinch. I don't use the pot every day, but fairly often, and find it helpful in keeping my nose clear for breathing. I agree with the other reviewer who says it doesn't clear your sinuses as such. It clears your nose. But that has a knock-on effect on the sinuses. It's handy for travelling, being small and lightweight. I've not managed to buy kosher or pickling salt, even on a trip to a Jewish area of London, but somehow I doubt if I'll be buying tiny sachets of salt on a regular basis. I intend to combine this with using a humidifier when I can afford one, Medisana Ultrabreeze is the name that springs to mind, it's on amazon. This type of product is recommended in the Harvard guide to sinus care book, also avaialable on this site. I think the approach to sinus care needs to have several strands if it is to be effective long-term.

Great little product!
This is a great little item, and it's already making a difference for me. I've had really bad sinuses and allergies for years and it was getting to the point where I couldn't even breath through my right nostril, yet within a few days of using this once a day my sinuses feel so much clearer and I can actually breath! I haven't used it in a few weeks as I've been so busy so my sinuses feel blocked up again, which just shows how much it worked for me. It was awkward at first as it felt really weird and I swallowed most of the water (!) but I realised I wasn't fully breathing through my mouth, I was actually half breathing through my mouth and nose so half the water went down my throat! But now it's a breeze to do and I definitely recommend it!

Three Stars
Very simple pot, does the job but it could be priced more reasonably for what you get.

I know what you're thinking.....
You think this is one of those products that try to make money from people with chronic conditions? Well I have to say so did I, but after a very bad infection I developed chronic post nasal drip - constant coughs, inhibited sleep, sticky mucus build up in mouth - euchhh - it drives me absolutely nuts. Google 'post nasal drip' - you'll see how many others suffer with no solution from our esteemed NHS doctors - saw ENT specialist - in a year I was prescribed 3 different steroid nasal sprays: nasonex, beconase, flixonase - none worked. Only temporary relief was from nasal decongestant tablets & sprays which you can only use safely for 7 days. In desperation more than anything else I bought one of these; I paid more than the £11 or so you can get them for now - did I wish I'd bought one earlier? - it was the best relief EVER! Did it cure it - well no but its a lot better than it was - much more tolerable - pretty well gone (touch wood). Tip: I find that if also gargle in the morning with half teaspoon ordinary salt in a mug of warm water it helps keep the throat clear, too. It's natural, so safe to use often if you get a cold, say, too. NB: DO NOT USE ORDINARY table/cooking salt for nasal rinse - it has an anti-caking chemical in it that will sting and aggravate your nose - but you can use per 250ml (this pot full)quarter tspoon of pickling/canning salt (Tesco, Asda etc) or fine 100% sea salt - check the ingredients carefully to make sure there's no added chemicals - instead of buying more premix should you wish to keep your cost down. You can add a pinch od bicarb to make it isotonic. PS for info - as well as the nasal rinses I still take the Flixonase daily at a reduced dose - I haven't tried to go without it altogether....yet.

Fab and so effective but follow the instructions properly!!
As a hay fever sufferer I would get bad irritations in my eyes, nose, ears and roof of my mouth. The Netipot was something I saw on Cougar Town and I thought I'd give it a go since antihistamines were a hit and miss and filters didn't work. Amazing is all I can say. I bought one for my mum but she's too scared to use it lol. The only thing I will say is FOLLOW the instructions otherwise you will feel a sharp pain in your sinus that you won't forget! I once got a funny side effect of water (saline) dripping out of nose whilst at work so make sure you follow the instructions!! Just to share for laughs, the water dripped out whilst I was interviewing a candidate and the look of horror as it was like someone turned a tap on. Hahahah

Not the most pleasant experience first time round .
OK i give this 5 start at is defo does the job what comes out is scary and to be honest i don't think i could describe it here, the unit itself is a nice size easy to hold and come with some instructions on how to use it, also come with a good supply of solution in little packets. Trust me youtube how to use it the instruction are clear but your get a much better understanding on how to do and wont feel like your drowning that way. as if you get it wrong you end up with water all down the back of your throat, i did a few times till i got the hang of it now thanks to this pot nice shape and what most important is the spout it not to hard in you nose .I use daily and it take 5 mins it easy, one tip when using it take your time a lot of the times is take a min or so for the water to flow out your other nostril it not that you need to rease the put up higher doing that will just end up with the solution going down the back and that not pleasant, if you use it right there nothing to it and oddly kind of a cleansing feeling hope this helps.

Ottimo
