Perhaps not really suitable for 9year old
Seems sturdy but instructions went terribly clear. Child was pleased with it but think it is a but complicated for a 9 year old to work out without lots of help

Not very sturdy or useful
Bought this for my kids (8yrs & 6yrs) who were starting to become more interested in microscopic life - in particular water bears!Fairly basic functionality on the scope, and the design is quite plastic and does not feel particularly sturdy. Kit comes with few little tools and vials etc for collection of samples which is nice when going out to explore ponds and moss around the area. The light is not very good, and does not have brightness setting and makes it a BIG problem to focus on any samples. This causes much frustration with kids (and parents) and makes this product quite useless in terms of stimulating minds to explore more of the microscopic worlds. We tried another microscope by Bresser - called the Junior - and this was MUCH better. So I would rather recommend that product.

Great value great choice
It was a great gift to give to my daughter, she absolutely loves it, very clear lens and plenty of slides, pretty light weight, easy to operate, would highly recommend.

I bought this for my seven year old niece and she loves it. It's quite sturdy for a starter kit and the magnification actually allows her to see quite a bit.
