Product Description If you are a fan of exotic fish and aquariums you should invest in a saltwater aquarium. The pleasure you'll get from your fish, makes a saltwater tank worth the time involved in setting it up, but how do you ensure that the temperature is correct along with guarantying that the salinity in your aquarium is precise? Then you need a Kent Marine Hydrometer. A hydrometer is a required piece of equipment for anyone with a salt water aquarium. This device allows you to determine the specific gravity of your salt water, this information, is essential for the health of your fish or reefs. Our hydrometer is easy to read and accurate certified calibration to 0.01 gravity units, complete with easy to understand table and instructions for setting up. Directions Submerege hydrometer approximately 3" below water surface until water reaches the fill level line. Remove hydrometer and place on a level surface. Air bubbles adhearing to the pointer will result in inaccurate, high readings. Gebntly tap hydrometer to dislodge air bubbles. Read specific gravity on inside scale and salinity in parts per thousand (ppt) on outside scale. Rinse with fresh water after every use. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Box Contains Each order comes with 1 x Kent Marine Hydrometer See more

Junk
Don't buy this item. What I got was faulty and consequently I added way too much salt to my tank. I'm now in the process of removing salt water for fresh water. Fortunately this tank is in setup otherwise I would have killed livestock and wasted £100's.Spend a bit more and save money in the long run.

Completely inaccurate
I followed the instructions and left saltwater in the device for 24 hours for it to 'calibrate', however after the 24 hours had passed I tested with more tank water which gave a reading of 1.020 S.G. My refractometer gives a reading of 1.025 S.G. I understand hygrometers aren't as accurate but the difference between the two readings is just phenomenal. Therefore this hydrometer is completely inaccurate. It will be going straight in the bin.

Basic and needs to be used carefully.
Simple unit and not expensive, but you have to tap it on a hard surface quite firmly a few times to remove even the smallest bubble from the needle or it gives a completely wrong reading.

Really poor I know hydrometers aren't as accurate as a refractometer but this was all over the place, I've used other hydrometers before and they've been better

not the best design, subject to distorted readings
Very tempremental and sensitive, may not always give the clearest readings but seems to work ok if you are patient and take a few readings to make sure you discount any anomalies.

A neat little gadget
One of these, or similar, is an essential piece of equipment for salt water aquaria. Easy to fill and read but getting rid of bubbles on the swing arm can sometimes be fiddly. Worth buying
