Great for amateurs like me...
So I’m about as useful with a drill as I am with a pair of dancing shoes. That said, I needed a decent, cost effective drill for some minor DIY jobs around the house. Given the price and recognised brand (sure, trademen will tell you B&D aren’t the best brand in the world, but for amateur DIY’ers like me, they’re a recognised brand I feel I can trust. I bought this drill and it arrived next day. Unfortunately it doesn’t come in any sort of case, but fitted into my old drill case perfectly given its compact size. Performance wise it has been excellent. I’ve put up shelves, curtain rails, blinds etc. drilling into wood, brick and stone without any problems. The drill feels well made and suitably powerful for in-home DIY. It would be nice to have another handle to help guide the drill, but this is a minor gripe. Tip: make sure you use a good drill bit and replace them regularly. If you’re using a decent bit, this drill is more than sufficient.

Excellent drill.
I ordered with Prime in the evening and received the next morning! Super fast from Amazon. Great drill. Comes with a key chuck. Better than the cheap keyless chucks which require difficult two handed operation. A smaller chuck than pictured but that suited me fine. Good powerful drill and lighter than a cordless. No getting mixed up with reverse and forward because it doesn’t have reverse. I’m using it straight out of the box in my Wolf drill press. After a few simple modifications to the drill press it fits perfectly. Result 2 perfectly perpendicular holes. All for £22.00 and another useful drill to boot. After a bit of time using the drill, it has now become my go to drill after my cordless. I use my cordless for screwdriving and the B&D for holes. The keyed chuck is very useful as others have said and the B&D drill has the little rubber grommet to hold the chuck key hence its not getting lost anytime soon. The chuck is also easy to use. The bits always seem to go in correctly and aren’t ever crooked unlike some modern day chucks. The weight of the drill is also a factor which helps if you’re using it a lot (reducing fatigue).

Wind in my hair
This drill is quite amazing, although I am speaking only about it drilling through wood. It's so powerful I literally was working with wind in my hair. I can only imagine what the hammer function does because I had it on a regular setting and it went into the wood like into butter. Like some reviewers have said, drills that work on battery can't compare to this, I'm using this drill as a replacement for a battery-operated one and I'm kicking myself for not discovering it sooner, because the cabinet that I've just built would've been finished in no time. You do have to be careful when holding the drill because it's so powerful, but it only takes a moment to get used to, and if you hold it well, it works very smoothly. It holds the drill bits well too so you don't have to worry about them falling out. There are two things I don't like about it: 1. the 2m cord is too short. Sure, you can use an extension, but that's an extra cost. If you don't have an extension, 2 meters is too short to move around comfortably unless you're drilling close to the socket. 2. It doesn't have a 'lock' button. It has a 'lock on' button, which means it works continuously, but there's no button to block the trigger when you're not using the drill but it's plugged in. Which means you have to be very careful when putting it down and picking it up so as not to accidentally pull the trigger and drill through stuff you don't want to drill through (like the sofa, for example). Overall, I'm really glad to have bought it. It's such a pleasure to work with that I want to start building cabinets on a regular basis.

Great Value Regular Duty Drill
This is the only match I could find to replace our lovely & reliable age ol' 350w Bosch model within any kind of an un-silly, am-not-a-full-time-builder price range. It tends to have the strength of the Bosch in speed of torque & pressure, if a little noisier (stronger motor though). I found a few good reviews for it on Sainsbury's site which is the best I could find of anything to give me the go-ahead nod! (And I'm very familiar with investigating)! - AND this drill has the more reliable chuck head drill bit jaw... much better than the quick release types as they don't tend to last so long on drills of this capacity, especially (nor even on most of the trades heavy duty type either, come to that). I found it pretty comfortable to hold & operate - even with my quite small hands. Another plus is that this one is no heavier than our ol' Bosch. If it lasts half as long, it has still done well at that price, these days. Remember - use good drill bits which is what does more than half the job. Good Luck with yours. Go wake the world people! :-)

Good for the money, but...
For the money this is a great household drill however for masonry work its not great. No speed control makes drilling a true holes into brick work almost impossible. It was also very heavy going to complete the job.

Good quality hammer drill
I already have a cordless Black and Decker drill, but it doesn't have a hammer function, so cannot drill in to brick, stone or concrete. So, I wanted a cheap hammer drill, purely so I could drill in to masonry. This drill is exactly what I was after - compact, powerful and well made. It drilled through thick stone walls with ease. The drill was lighter than I expected, and feels nice in hand. The keyed chuck is easy to use, and holds the drill bit nice and firm. The drill comes with no case, bits or plastic support handle/grip, but what do you expect for £24. I just wanted a well made drill powerful enough to go through thick stone, brick and concrete - and that's exactly what I've got.

At last, a drill I'm not afraid to use!
I have searched for a while, both on the high street and online for a drill that I could handle easily and safely. The drill my husband uses is much too big and heavy for me to use for small household jobs, and hobby requirements. I was never happy trying to use it - in the end, just asking him to do a small drilling job for me. This lovely little B & D drill was made for people who just need a neat, lightweight, handy tool to get a small job done, quickly and with no fuss or bother. Great for installing picture hooks, and accurate screw fixing, without straining your hands and wrists, plus the good old fashioned keyed chuck technology is so easy to use when mounting the drill bit or screwdriver bit.
