I was looking for a solution to allow me to utilise my parents Virgin Media broadband about 20 meters (crows flight), window to window. This gave me around 30% on 2Ghz and about 30 other routers started displaying my list I’d not seen before. I’ve since had my own VM BB installed, 100MB and on 5GHZ I’m hitting just over 100MB down / 6MB up (limited) all day long no problem. I work with large files, I’m always streaming video in the background and I cannot tell the difference between WIFI / cable. I’ve tested in on Windows 8/10, OSX El Cap, Linux and it’s been no problem. The routed is situated blow my room about 6 meters away with 100%. I can only get 60% on built in WIFI on a laptop. It’s an old house, thick walls so I’m happy. I would recommend this product, it’s well built, the aerials can easily be replaced / upgraded. I’ll defo be taking this when I go away too, hotels always have black spots, this should work a treat! So let me set the scene: a long long time ago I bought a budget gaming PC, nothing too fancy just enough to play some games from yesteryear...or even yester-decade...or even yester-century. Anyway it came with one of those mini-dongles that you could swallow with a glass of water and it was hopeless. Loses connection easily, and if there was another USB device plugged into the adjacent slot it wouldn't work at all. One of my problems is that I'm upstairs and the router is downstairs with no possibility of being moved. So I began a journey of finding a replacement wi-fi dongle and with mixed reviews everywhere...and some outrageous prices I decided to plump for this one. It was a little more expensive than what I set out to buy but ultimately, if it worked, it would be worth it. So far so great! Full strength and been using it for a few days now and no problems thus far. Will have to see how it holds up to the age of time, but I really recommend this for anyone who is having trouble maintaining a connection.

The product arrived in a nice little box, and the actual adapter itself is pretty big and powerful. Also supplied was 2 reasonably sized antennas. To my surprise I found that as soon as plugging this into a USB 3.0 port on my PC running windows 10, Windows 10 installed the required driver instantly and I was able to connect to my 5ghz network out of the box achieving a very good signal and the full 150 megabits per second I pay for. Annoyingly the supplied USB dock is only USB 2.0 which makes no sense considering the actual adapter is USB 3.0 and can make full use of the benefits of USB 3 (I have uploaded a picture showing this) nevertheless, the box does state it is a free 'gift' so I'm not going to mark it down because of this. With Windows 8.1, you have to install the both the driver and the software in order to achieve full speeds. I found that the device was plug and play with windows 8.1 however you receive very poor performance without installing the driver from the Alfa website. Pictured, I have some speed tests. I have done an experiment and as you can see the adapter performs very weakly when the antennas are not connected. I get full speeds when connected from my bedroom - which is one floor and one room away from my router. For convenience sake, I have also added a 'real world' speed test conducting a download on a games client called Steam, pictured is the speed in MegaBYTES (not bits), of one of my games downloading. One megabyte is equivalent to eight Megabits so theoretically,according to my own speedtest, I should get a speed of around 19.8 megabytes which is more than accurate using this adapter. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase, however because of the poor driver support in OS's other than Windows 10 and because of the fact the supplied cradle is only USB 2, and that the adapter performs poorly on its own without the aid of the antennas, I'm satisfied to give this product 4 stars

Trying to install drivers in Linux was a struggle, and in the end I gave up. works well with Windows. The extension cable is a good quality and long.

Its Alpha Networks, Genuine. What can I say....flawless driver install, check the alpha support page for the latest versions. Range and speed are all acceptable, and the ability to remove and upgrade the antenna is just the ticket, allowing you to double or even triple the signal strength. Performance is rock solid, virtually no drop out due to the fact its AC1200, BGN and Dual Band, it can also be used as an AP, which further drives up its usability. If your in the UK and rely on BT Wifi with Fon, then this is the wifi router to get. One happy customer.

An amazing product. I've been using this for maybe a year now. (Just checking through unreviewed products) It picks up plenty of different routers/connections with amazing dB signal strength, even though they are extremely far away. The only problem I have is if you unplug this from its adapter, disable it in the network sharing center,or unplug the usb and then proceed to immediately plug this in after or re-enable you have to restart the computer to get the internet adapter working again! Apart from that, which is a minor problem, as it barely happens this product is great. No other problems, it was a fast delivery as far as I recall, and the different modes available are a nice little addition, and whilst I don't use them, it may be useful for others. My old Lenovo T400 sees more wireless networks than this adapter. This has better reception on the visible networks though. Took me 2 hours to install on newer Linux kernel as drivers are not working very well. Couldn't get it working in Windows 7 with downloaded drivers from Alfa's site. It worked right away on Windows 10, but again could pickup less networks than my old T400 built in. If you're looking for an AC adapter this is fine, but don't expect to have the advertised range.

Got this product delivered very quickly. Now all the computers and laptops in the house are connected via WiFi. Bought this USB WiFi adapter for its range, as my wireless router is 2 floors away, and in the diagonal position through the structure of the house. it's very easy to set up. Just installed the driver and plugged in this adapter, and hey, it worked on the first connect. Reception signal reading is much than the laptop and two other USB adapters without the big antennas. So now I can crank down a bit of the transmission power of my wireless router and still keep computers in all rooms connected without any issue. Recommend it (generally with big antennas) if you need to get reception through several floor and walls. Hey if you still have issues getting signal, the flexible antennas are there for a reason. Imagine a huge donut shape radio transmission cloud around the antenna, and make sure your wireless router is in the cloud. Hope this helps.

I bought it about a month ago and have had no problems with it. It works well, and hasn't been giving me any problems lately. That's the short version. Below is a long version for anyone who really wants more information. (By the way, I would definitely recommend this product.) Anyway, on to the long version. At first I was a little worried about buying it given some of the negative reviews and all of the driver problems. I'm running a Win 8.1 machine. But bought it anyways just to try it. The shipping was great, I received it in 2-3 days and the device was completely intact and new. I tried just plugging the adapter and letting Windows auto install the driver for it because people have said that the driver on the CD didn't work. Windows did download a driver for it, but the driver didn't seem to work. It could see Wi-Fi networks around my house, but I couldn't connect to them, so I used the CD to install the driver and the Realtek USB service (after uninstalling the old driver that Windows downloaded). In the event that you do plug it in and the driver installs and you want to uninstall it, unplug it, go into device manager, and uninstall the driver. You can also try keeping it on there, but I didn't want to risk messing something up. In retrospect, the reason that I couldn't connect to any Wi-Fi was probably because the Realtek USB service is required. Edit: After a bit of use it seems that it is not required, but I like the service. So, just for reference, every single step I took once I put the disc in is as follows (which means a very long list. In reality it isn't as bad as it seems, just a lot of clicking. You can also skip it and just get to the overall review.): 1. Opened "File Explorer" and clicked on "This PC" in the Navigation Menu (Also known as My Computer on older systems). 2. Right clicked on my DVD drive and clicked on the "Open" option. 3. Double clicked on ALFAINSTALL.exe (by the way, I remember reading a review that said a user's manual was not included on the CD. I found one in the "doc" folder on the CD.) You could also let it auto run. 4. When it opened, there were three buttons. One was "Browse Disc" and the other two were for selecting the product you had. I clicked on the one that said "AWUS036AC", which is this product. The other option was a slightly different adapter. 5. When I clicked on it, it asked me which driver I wanted to install or if I wanted to view the user's manual. (The three drivers it listed were Windows, Linux, and Mac. Not sure how well the Mac works, but I will look at the Linux and edit this review later.) 6. Clicked on the "Windows Driver" button and it came up with another list of buttons that asked if I was using XP, 7, or 8/8.1.) 7. Clicked on the "8/8.1" button and then hit "Yes" when UAC popped up. 8. Next it had me install the Realtek USB Wireless LAN Driver and Utility. (Which is a fairly nice piece of software by the way.) 9. Hit "Next" on the screen that popped up. 10. It came up with a bar that said it was installing and then Windows asked me if I wanted to install the device software. Checked the box asking if I wanted to always trust software from Realtek Semiconductor Corp and then hit install. 11. It installed and then asked if I wanted to restart my computer now or not. I hit "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." and then hit "Next". 12. After my computer restarted I hit the "Show Hidden Icons" button on the right hand side of the taskbar, clicked on the "Realtek USB Wireless LAN" (hover over it to see the name) which opened an application window. 13. I then plugged in the wireless adapter and the application automatically found it. 14. I clicked on the "Available Network" tab and it showed a list of networks I could connect to. 15. I clicked on the network I wanted, typed in the Network Key (password), hit "Okay", and it worked perfectly. I tried it on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and both of them work fine. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments. So far, the signal has been fairly consistent. It is usually around 95%, but goes between 90 and 100. For some reason it also occasionally freaks out and drops to 75% or 80%. But maybe that's because I am using USB 2.0 instead of 3.0 so it's not getting the same power it would on 3.0 (I have no clue so I am making a slightly educated guess)? I don't have good internet, so I can't speak for the speed. Also, I regularly use the 2.4 GHz band because 2.4 GHz is an inherently stronger/farther reaching signal. At average of 95% I am around 30 feet away from my router, with a few walls in between. I have noticed that the percentage doesn't really change much between 20 and 40 feet. It stays in that same range I mentioned earlier, and it still does the same freaking out thing. Just so everyone knows, I am using a Wireless-N network on the 2.4 and AC on the 5. I am also using a USB 2.0 because of the orientation of the USB ports on my laptop. It's light enough that you can also stick it strait into your computer without harming it or the USB port. Pros: Works on Windows 7 and 8.1 Good signal reception and transmission Doesn't cut out The Realtek USB Wireless LAN program is pretty good It supports USB 3.0 It supports AC wireless It operates at 300 Mbps instead of 150 Mbps It comes with a USB dock that has a 4' USB cable No problems with shipping. It came in 2-3 days.
