Decent, workmanlike
Seems well made, from reasonably decent quality plastics (ABS?), if somewhat medical-looking in those resplendent shades of grey and off-white. It has just the one OFF switch, for all plugs at once, BUT BE AWARE: the button's toggle action is actually very soft, I'd even say TOO soft! It's so soft that if you have cats, dogs or maybe even heavy guinea-pigs, they could easily flip it if they stepped on it! I personally chose to place some strong rubber bands around it to keep it on (those red bands the postie sometimes has around your mail work perfectly, as they're the right size and strength) yet still ready to be turned off at a moment's notice if necessary (but with the bands in place, the button will revert to ON straightaway if no force is exerted to keep in off). I paid £7.50 for my 4-way with 1m cable, which is a fair price-point for this as far as I'm concerned - it's currently (Feb 2014) being offered by Amazon at a little over £8.

A MUST HAVE
These Belkin surge masters are a must for any household that uses expensive electronic equipment i.e. TV, Video, DVD or any form of expensive entertainment equipment. I purchased these for use with my new Toshiba LED TV, and my new Toshiba DVD/VHS/HD recorder and my Virgin cable box. At one time you could rely on a stable supply in UK, but even then there could be transient spikes or what is known in the trade as brown outs where massive surges manifest themselves on the supply network.Unfortunately sensitive electronic equipment are very prone to these type of electronic disturbances and in some cases especially the massive transient or high current spikes can seriously damage the equipment. This is where the Belkin surgemaster sockets come in, as they will protect your equipment from damage when these surges are present on the power supply network, they have a filter system that bypasses the surges to earth therefore diverting the excessive surge away from the supply into your equipment.I have used Belkin surgemasters for several years now and have an 8 way supplying my computer and peripherals and an 8 way supplying my studio equipment also an 8 way for my expensive tube guitar amplifiers and associated equipment, I even have a single surgemaster supply the flat screen TV in the kitchen. These days they are relatively low cost as I remember buying my computer and studio 8 way surgemasters they were 3 times the price that they are today, highly recommended for protection of your home entertainment equipment and all electronic equipment. The Belkin Surgemaster carries a lifetime guarantee and also covers you equipment for £25,000 in the case of damage, that is how confident they are in their own products.

Fit for purpose if a little awkwardly shaped.
Solid 4 way adapter if a little awkward to actually place. The strip itself is a tad unwieldy due to the width and curve so in the space I'm using it (a small gangway underneath a desk) it sits at a 45 degree angle and is a little awkward to access. In terms of its use I would recommend it for smaller, lesser-value items that you need surge protection for. It does have an on/off switch which affects the entire unit and not individual sockets which is probably of little use for a home (unless the mains switch is inaccessible) but a nice feature nonetheless. The product receives four stars for doing its (albeit quite straightforward) job, but does lose one for the clunky design. If you need a power strip for more valuable items then please look about £10-20 dearer as the level of protection (and in many cases damage insurance via the provider) is much greater. For simple items though this will suit you down to the 'ground'.

Typical trustworthiness I've come to expect from Belkin products.
Belkin is one of those brands you see around on a lot of electrical goods, and you know you;re going to get a good quality product from them. These 4 way surge protectors are no exception.I particularly like the little cable tidy clip that sits on the opposite end to the switch - I have 2 outlets in my front room and have 6 appliances permanently plugged in, so I bought a pair of these and plug 3 into each with the cables tucked out of the way.Bear in mind that these are the BASIC version of the Belkin SurgeMasters and offer their entry level "Home" surge protection of up to 714 Joules / 19500 Spike Amps. This particular model is not recommended to protect AV equipment - TV's, consoles, PC's etc. The next tier above offers some AV and phone line protection, and the Maximum series offers their ultimate surge protection (2700J, 75000A). The full details of these are actually printed on the box that these come in, which I recycled before taking a photo of!

Protects smaller electrical items e.g., blender, microwave
Had intended to buy a surge protector for my new LCD TV. This surge protector is for smaller electrical items so be sure to check what level you require. This product is the 'Essential' protection level. 'Advanced' protection covers mid-level audio/video equipment e.g., gaming; older TVs. If you want to protect high technology equipment e.g., sound system; LCD TV; Computers etc you will need the 'Extreme' protection level. So this product did not serve the purpose I bought it for, however i'm using it to protect my smaller electrical items and it is great. I'm now going to order the 'Essential' surge protector for my TV.

Quality protection
Purchased to replace a non surge 4 way. Looks a lot more solid than the unit it has replaced and has a couple of extras. Firstly it has a switch for the entire block, really handy way of turning off everything sat on standby at once. Secondly it has a little section to help with keeping cables tidy (they grey bit at the end in the photo).I made the swap because in my flat the power tripped sometimes when I plugged an iron in. That hasn't happened since I used this 4 way and I've since upgraded all my kit to plug into Belkin surge protectors.Great price when you consider it could save you're very expensive kit from electrical surges.
