Product description Resident Evil 4: Limited Edition (PS2 Steelbook) .co.uk Review In a nutshell: Welcome back to the world of survival horror… as you’ve never seen it before. Probably the most ambitious revamp of a series ever seen this neither looks nor plays like any Resident Evil game before it. Gone are in dodgy camera angles of yore and in comes all action third person adventure action with stunning graphics and set pieces. The lowdown: Charged with rescuing the president’s daughter from a mysterious Spanish cult, you control Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil 2. Although series regulars like the green health herbs and rubbish dialogue are present almost everything else has changed: there's a completely new 3D environment, few puzzles, no magic chests and not a single repeated monster from the old games. Instead you face a series of supremely cinematic set pieces and boss battles, including an escape from a village filled with Texas Chainsaw Massacre extras. As the Black Eyed Peas once remarked, "pick up your range of deeply unpleasant biological weapons and let's get retarded." Most exciting moment: The frantic siege from the villagers in the abandoned cottage has got Evil Dead beat easy. Since you ask: Resident Evil 4 won four awards at this year’s Golden Joysticks event, including Editor’s Game of the Year. The bottom line: The best game of the year and one of the best action games of all time. Harrison Dent Leon's girlfriend was not impressed with her Christmas bondage gear Is it just us, or is there the face of an old man (God?!) hidden in the rocks? Survival horror faux pas no.256: wearing leather in a hardcore vegan community. Would look cooler if he held the gun at a 90 degree angle, like Ice Cube in Friday

Masterful Gaming as good as it ever gets..
I've played a fair share of games in my time, I never had a PS2, so I brought this to play on my PS3 after seeing the reviews.I've now finished the game and what can I say, this is one game that has kept me glued to my screen till 01:00am since the first Halo. I would go as far as saying this is probably at the top of my list of top 10 games of all times. The story is good and the graphics are great for a PS2 game. I still have the seperate ways to complete, but the game play and tactics you need to use is awesome. I just now hope RE5 can live upto RE4. I somehow doubt it will as the creator of the series Mukami has left and it was his brainchild. RE5 looks good, but I doubt it will re-invent the wheel like RE4 has done. Still I don't mind another romp, but here is hoping they still have a few tricks up there sleeves.Overall, if like me you never played the RE4 before, then I would go as far as to say, either buy a PS3 which has backward compatibility or buy/borrow someones PS2 to play this gem of a game. There is no game ever been like it (and I may eat my words here) and I doubt RE5 will be able to top this, but here's hoping.

Pure Quality
I know lots of people have heaped praise on this game already but its impossible to stress just how incredibly good it really is.I've been a huge fan of the Resident Evil series ever since the first game was released & 4 is a bit of a departure from its predecessors. Every change from the previous games is an improvement: The new camera angle, The health gauge, The Merchant, Improved AI, The fact that you don't need to find typewriter ribbons to save your progress, The removal of the 'auto-aim' option. Everything feels like the developers have really thought about each detail & enhanced it. Even the acting in cut scenes is better (could it have been any worse than it used to be?).I like the way Capcom have got away from the endless wandering through corridors, dodging unbelievably stupid enemies that permeated previous RE games. In 4 there is an abundance of excellent set-pieces, traps & enemies that require different strategies to defeat effectively. Also you are not often forced into dodging enemies due to lack of ammo (a very irritating thing about RE2). You can choose to dodge if you want to conserve ammo but you get enough bullets to kill the majority of things you'll encounter. I was pleasantly surprised at how big RE4 is too. I thought I was getting to the end of it at one point but it turned out that there was still over a third of the game to go, not including the unlockable extra missions. My favourite thing about the game is the volume & variety of Bosses. Although a couple are fairly easy, the majority are very tough & a new strategy needs to be applied to each one. I generally ended up with hardly any health & only a few rounds of ammo left after each boss.My only small criticisms are 1) Some of the tension & 'creepy' factor has been sacrificed for more action. 2) The Shotgun doesn't seem powerful enough 3) A couple of the bosses & puzzles are a bit to easy for my liking. However these are just tiny niggles in a big complex game. Finally, dont bother playing RE4 on the 'easy' setting. big chunks of the game are missed out & things are over simplified as a result. Anyway, there is a variable difficulty setting in 'normal' mode which is automatically adjusted depending on how well you play. I thought this might make things too simple but, in practice, it keeps the difficulty perfectly weighted throughout the whole game. This is the essential game of the year (& the metal tin is very nice too).

PS2 Controls are awful!
Having played the Gamecube version YEARS ago, I wanted to play it again. Unfortunately the controls are a nightmare and take a lot fo getting used to, but this game still holds up well.

Great fun
After replugging in my ps2 to use it to watch a DVD I searched for a couple of games online. RE4 has much more action than the previous installments and an enjoyable story. There is a mercenaries side game once the game is completed. For a 15+ years old game, I found it a lot of fun.

Timeless masterpiece.
My favourite game of all time so I had to buy a copy of the steelbook again after I lost mine years ago. It's such an incredible game and has aged really well it's a perfect balance of horror and action. While it's easily the best case for the game with it's stunning design this game is on pretty much everything so it's not the best version to play. But if you love this game I recommend getting this version for collecting or for nostalgia.

Perfect
The game is fairly good to perfect: I am undecided. I have decided to be the next Sony/Microsoft etc. regarding the game, this is horrible indeed, but as a computer fantasy: perfect. Regarding if the game is flawless I sense it is not, but with complete testing I am sure I can tell you.

This game is terrible
I don't see why everyone is saying RE4 is good, its clearly a pile of rubbish, its what started the RE action rubbish off in the first place, its not scary, its boring and it doesn't feel like RE. If you want my advice stick to RE1-CVx, which are the best in the series and always will be.
