What is the battery life for 2 AA batteries?

It does use Batteries. 2 AA Batteries as stated in the Listing. Ignore Wesley's comment...he is mistaken.

What is the difference between this one and the female one - apart from the price being more for the female one?!

Nothing, except the female one has a more enjoyable life experience.

My adjustable guard keeps coming off mid use any suggestions

You’re pressing too hard. Use a lighter touch and it should be fine.

Will this do my head with a short or no blade on??

It's powerful enough but it's not that wide for head use, also the the sliding comb guard which controls the length is prone to slipping.
